{Humble Beginnings - Our 1987 PC}

For sure all of us are living with a personal PC, Laptop, Notebook, Tablet, Smartphone or whatever...
When did we all start using this? For us the very first PC we had in 1987 at our office in the previous home in Dublin, Georgia. Humble beginnings...
This was before Internet was even available!
Can we imagine life without?
What a difference from now...!
In our previous home there was carpet all over when it was newly build.
That we can do without, now we only have tiles and solid oak plank floors.
Under the crocheted doily with roses is my humble word processor...
What a change we all have lived through!
Loved those wicker baskets in which my imported papier mâché from Kashmir, India got shipped.
Very nice way of wrapping things for export!
Here the solid oak indoor shutters have not even been stained yet...
Now we got them all painted white in our present home.
Those filet lace embroidered window decorations are hand made by me.
Do you have some PC dinosaur photos as well?

    1. Dearest Theresa,
It is funny if we look back to how corporate computers got used. At the practical training college we already used computers in the 70s but not for internet either.
We all can remember the times before Internet but PCs are still developing so fast.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

No doubt you meant 2006! No you certainly don't live in the dark ages as many from your age will not even manage what you do on your computer. It opened a whole new world for you! So happy for you.

Well, time is going fast and it only makes us feel 'old' doesn't it?
Such a home computer could do very little compared with the modern versions.
But it sure was a humble beginning!

I remember thinking "WoW!!!" when young for the computer in the old American "TV drama "The Man from U.N.C.L.E" with my late father. Haha, very huge ones!!! I need my pc in the kitchen table to check things while talking, eating, watching tv. We sure are living in the advanced technology♪

Oh sure things have changed and it is good also for keeping contact across the oceans. Thank you for the compliment about the filet lace embroidery and enjoy this new week too. Although, we are afraid of the frost for tomorrow night... with all our tropical plants out of the greenhouse it is risky.

You have a beautiful home. I first came in contact with a pc in 1985 when i started my first job. Gosh that is a long time ago and look where we are today, technology is really speeding forward. However they are great tools or have we just gotten use to them and adapted to the new world? I look around me here on the tram and almost everybody having their nose down doing something in rheir smartphones, even i hehe. I usually read some blogs while travelling in to the city.

Thank you for sharing these memories! I have no computer dinosaur photos or memories, because I LONG resisted having a computer (Typical artist thing, I guess, LOL) -- same with cell phones and a smartphone now (which I still use very sparingly).
As you can see, I'm still on the "back side" of blogging and catching up, unfortunately... since this is a very busy time for me and will be for a while -- I'm moving to a new apartment in May!
Thinking of you and your sweet furry babies! Thank you so much for the update!

  23. Dearest Mariette, your post brought back memories of my first AMSTRAD CPC (my son still has it, not only in photos !!) in the early '90. At that time, the company I was working in, was not yet computerized and - I will never forget this- my boss had a very important and long speech to deliver, so he came to my home so that I may type and edit his speech over and over, before printing it on my small BROTHER printer. Then, I persuaded him to computerize the company and for this, he called a very dear friend of his...from Holland!
Dirk van der L. came to Athens, I was appointed his assistant and interpreter, and together we initiated the employees to the world of the computers. He stayed in Greece, married a local lady, obtained the Greek nationality and we retired about the same time, two years ago!!!
I just loved your embroidered windo decorations!! They are lovely!!
Many hugs and thanks for bringing back those memories!!!!
