{Ebony Jewelwing}

With our new camera I was intrigued by a lot of Ebony Jewelwing flying near our creek...
But how difficult it is to capture them!
When I was trying to capture the more colorful male up close this afternoon, I had to give up...
This makes me even more admire the excellent photos that Noushka takes from Dragonflies.
She is an excellent photographer, just have a look at her 1000 PATTES or 1000 TRACKS.
So below is what I got to share with you.
This is a male but I could not get his body clearly.
LOVE their face!
The female with the white spots on her wings.
Again a female...
A male, resting on an Orontium Aquaticum in the creek
Same Ebony Jewelwing male...

  7. Hello Mariette!
How thoughtful of you to mention my dragonfly photography!
Indeed it is not always easy, especially if the natural light is lacking.
For insects and dragonflies, I use the Macro Sigma 150 mm, a lens used by many photographers for this purpose, it is excellent and fits Nikon, Canon, and maybe other brands.
Your photos are very interesting considering this is a species we don't have here in France although we have different species of the Calopterigidae family quite similar too.
I will be away for a few days but I have prepared articles for every 2nd day! :)
Keep well and enjoy your gazebo!!

    1. Dearest Noushka,
Of course while chasing these hyper jewelwings I have been thinking about you a lot. It must take a lot of patience and above all, knowledge and experience to do what you manage to do so well.
Thanks for the tip! That is valuable information.
My first cousin from The Netherlands already mentioned a close relative of the Calopterigidae but it is not the same.
Looking forward to your next beautiful photos.
Hugs and yes, we will enjoy our gazebo!

    1. Dearest Marianne,
This year the creek is not full and I could get to its sides easily, compared to the constant flooding in August of last year. That must have had an impact on those insects as well as their food source was under water... This year we have plenty of them!
Thanks for you comment, happy to share.
      Hugs,

  9. Dearest Mariette,
You have managed to take some lovely photos. Did I miss what new camera you decided to buy? It must have a good close up lens.
I have been trying to get a picture of the hummingbirds at my flowers all summer. So far they are too fast for me!
    Enjoy our summer days..........*s*

    1. Dearest Suzi,
We did get ourselves a Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera 2 Lens Bundle at Costco. But like you say, those hummingbirds or even my ebony jewelwing are way too fast for us. Especially my age is catching up with me I guess. I really called it quits and gave up on them! Patience is also hard to manage if you need to do so much other things!
Never mind, we somehow produce photos for each other to share and enjoy.
Happy summer days to you and sending you hugs.

Oh how difficult that indeed was! Like an idiot almost I went alongside the creek and at times almost falling into the water or tripping when sneaking across. Guess these critters have huge eyes that spot us well and they must have had lots of laughs at me!!!
Indeed, are they not beautiful? Whomever invented their name did very well.
      Hugs to you,

  14. I think your pictures turned out pretty good. The butterflies in the States this summer would not sit still long enough for me to take pictures. I took my big camera but never even used it. So much easier to just snap away with my little iPhone. My 6 foot 2 almost 16 years is afraid of dragonflies. Imagine that! :) Have a terrific Tuesday. Tammy

Thank you and yes one has to have a lot of patience; something that is most of the time lacking... When we were in Florida and our camera got lost, we too used the iPhone and even iPad a lot.
Your 16 year old should look at these sweet creatures; they never bite humans!
Enjoy your remainder of the week as well.

  17. Lieve Mariette,

      Lieve groetjes,
      Mariette
