{Crinum Americanum - Swamp Lily}

Also in August and September we do have our Crinum Americanum or Swamp Lily blooming at their best.
Sorry for not having visited many blogs; had surgery on my left hand Friday and tomorrow I will get discharged from the hospital.
During the rainy week of September, husband Pieter captured this photo on the 24th.
Earlier, on August 9, I have taken this photo when they bloomed for the first time.
Very healthy leaves and lots of flowers but when it rains it is hard to enjoy them...
Again on September 24th.
They also produce lots of thick seeds!

Did any of you know this flower?

Please Take Care and try not push yourself too much after coming home. Thinking about you and sending healing wishes.

    1. Dearest Marie-Anne,
Well I guess for little or no reason my body seems to attack itself; this time my entire hand got swollen... Surgically they did open up my index finger as the swelling started there, to take some cultures. The result came back after two days with nothing growing in them; of course it left the medical staff puzzled, like in 2010 when I got paralyzed because of a rare autoimmune disease. Guess it happened again but I'm full of antibiotics and eager to be home by tonight!
Sorry for such a slow mail; nowadays things that would take only 4 days for The Netherlands, do take 14 days or more; no fun!
      Hope you soon get notified!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  8. That is such a beautiful lily! The white color stands out in dark day. I didn't know this flower, but I don't know most plants - I learn new things a lot here :-)
Glad you are coming home. Please rest well. I hope you recover quickly xoxo

Glad that I did have lots of blogposts scheduled... Loved to show our late summer blossoms and miss being able to walk out in the sunshine...
The pain is gone, only when they dress it new, it hurts when they press an Iodoform packing strip into the small cut.
Hope to be sleeping in my own bed tonight.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  10. Liebe Mariette,
was für eine schöne Blüte. Die Sumpf-Lilie kannte ich noch nicht.
Was hast du denn mit deiner Hand gemacht??

Ich habe via I.V.
      Mariette

I have been worried about you since you left a comment that you were cold in the hospital! Hope you are recovering, my Dear! Your swamp lily is very unusual and pretty. You always grow the most amazing flowers! I have not seen or heard of these. I hope they multiply for you and I hope all is healing nicely.

Thank you but I am home by now and recovering from surgery to my left index finger. Did sleep very well in my own bed after 5 nights in the hospital.
This swamp lily is a beauty and we got plenty of them, in both our garden beside the gazebo and a bigger patch in the wood garden.
      Sending you hugs,
