{Theresia Cloister - Theresiaklooster in Meterik, The Netherlands}

Last year, when visiting The Netherlands for Mom's 90th Birthday and Mom & Dad's 65th Wedding Anniversary, our sister-in-law did drop off this local news paper at our VacantieWoningPardoes
In which the Theresia Cloister in Meterik was published. That's where I got my 3-year education in Fashion Design in the mid to late sixties of last century.
This is the link from the HALLO Horst aan de Maas: Straatnamen:Theresiastraat Meterik
Streetnames: Theresiastreet in Meterik, a little town within Horst aan de Maas.
So that's where I went for 3 years, on my bike...
It was the February 19, 2014 issue.
There is a book titled: history of the little sisters of Saint Joseph - For the least of Mine by Gabrielle Dorren.

The English translation of above website about the book:
The congregation of the Little Sisters of Saint Joseph was founded on June 21, 1872 in Heerlen. Over the course of time, more than three thousand Dutch and Belgian women have entered. As religious, they focused mainly on those who were least looked after. The Little Sisters of St. Joseph worked in nursing, mentally defective care, custody institutions, education, elderly homes and church institutes such as seminars and retreat houses. They were active in the Netherlands and in Belgian Limburg, but also in China, Indonesia and Kenya. In with the least of the Mine, Gabrielle renders a history of 140 years, in which the Little sisters themselves emerge in all their diversity: in many ways they gave and give shape to their spirituality of simplicity, dedication and surrender.

Fond memories of this Theresia Cloister, where also our Great-Aunt used to live, before I even went to this Fashion Design school. The sisters had a kind of a nursing home for the elderly. It was my Paternal Grandfather's sister.

Interesting piece of history...

Yes, it was a lovely place to go to and they also had a huge garden at that time. I went there for 3 years.
Enjoy your mid-week and sending you hugs.
Wonder why they are so slow in reacting... Let's hope she will soon, indeed!

Guess because we were all born and raised in 'kikkerland' we did not even realize it was cold in winter! We just did it and survived. Fond memories and it is a beautiful building indeed.

      Liefs,
      Mariette

  10. How nice the place you studied was on the newspaper! That's a very lovely building.
I rode bicycle to school when I was in junior high school. My hometown gets very windy in winter, so riding bicycle was very challenging. But it was a good exercise :-)

Yes, and also such a coincidence that it just appeared while we were visiting The Netherlands! I've always gone to school on a bike and windy it got also in the fall and winter and often rain or snow. But it was very healthy exercise indeed!

  17. Dearest Mariette; Beautiful and Elegant looking school to learn Fashion Design♡♡♡ When I was a high school student, I had to use bike as no transportation close to my house to school. And no problem for young girl and I think I could enjoyed the season. But after I had a small accident (not series injury), not using bike I'm scared to ride(^^;) That was right after 50 :-)

Oh yes, we always went by bike to all schools. Only after I got married and had to drive 20 km to work, I used my car. Here we bike less because of the heat and hills... but we still do when nice weather.
Hugs and love back from Georgia, we got home from Arizona this morning by 2:00 AM.
