One More Patio Added

In the spring of 2014, I've written the post: Our Patio Tiles Are DONE! (see link below post...) and that was it we thought. All part of our Water Control program. We did leave out ONE corner without tiles because we still had our healthy Hibiscus syriacus Jeanne D'Arc living there. See a post from a healthy shrub in 2011.
BUT... our Hibiscus started looking bad and husband Pieter took starters last year, in order to rescue at least some 'Offspring'...
Meanwhile, with the photos of the tile boxes and all info, in front of me from the post about: Our Patio Tiles & Freeze Warning, I found them on the Internet! Home Depot had long discontinued them...
Yep, at a STOVER'S LIQUIDATION warehouse in Knoxville, Tennessee at some 7 hours driving distance from our home. They even were open on Sunday! So I drove there on June 11 of 2017, to pick up our order of 10 boxes with the Marazzi Orizzonti Sunset 12" x 12" tiles
We'd spent a night at a Hyatt hotel in Atlanta and from the warehouse I did drive straight home.
Photo is from April 26 after our pot plants had been moved back from the greenhouse and after all patios had been scrubbed clean to match this NEW one!
This is on March 10, a day that it was not 'wet'... We have had our share of rain this spring!
Materials are inside front porch for protection.
Concrete is being poured by hand...
Our workers did a neat job!
See how green the wood work in our front porch was from all the rain and pollen...
That has been scrubbed clean too.
The old wheelbarrow functioned for mixing the concrete.
April 26 from the bay window area to the front with all our pot plants already out.
There are dwarf Mondo grasses growing along the edging.
New Patio Corner where the Hibiscus syriacus Jeanne D'Arc once stood...
Left and right are now both tiled and looking a lot better!
May 20 and you can see that husband Pieter took this photo in-between showers.
We have had such enormous rain for weeks on end and more to come!
Our Quercus Virginiana Grand View Gold is therefore not looking its GOLDEN BEST...
Sunshine makes all the difference!
We also missed good photo options for the blooming Yucca lilies... They're all gone due to so much rain.

Hope you enjoyed this update!
Will visit you within a couple of days, have been rather sick but am on the mend.

Thanks for your visit and comment.

  1. Hello Mariette,
I enjoyed seeing your new patio. The tile work looks so nice and a fine job the workers did. I would like to have a patio such as yours at the front of my house. Tired of pulling weeds and keeping up the boxwood. I would do the same as you and put large pots of greenery and flowers. I like the clean look. You have a lovely piece of property. Love that long brick walk too.
Raining again here. Don't think it will ever stop. Hard keeping up with the mowing of lawn here in all this wetness.
Wishing you a great week ahead,
    Betsy

    1. Dearest Betsy,
Thank you for your compliment and yes, they did dan excellent job!
You are so right about keeping such spots free of weeds, this sure solves that problem but keep in mind, leaves and such still end up falling there. So there always is maintenance no matter what you have.
The brick walkway to the front door is something we wanted. We had seen so many homes where actually is NO walkway to the front door. Guess being European it is a different thing, also it is the 'WELCOME' to any home.
Often we arrived at homes where you have to walk from the driveway to the front door.
The rain is not stopping here the entire upcoming week... We almost drown!
The lawn looks awful but there is no way you can have it mowed, too soggy and not in the rain.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  2. Hello Mariette, Your neighbors must find it a joy to live near a house so beautifully kept. You were lucky to find the discontinued tiles. You perhaps should have anticipated adding this section, and ordered the tiles at the same time as the others and kept them in a shed, but that is probably the hoarder in me speaking!
    --Jim
P.S. I am glad to hear you are doing better!

    1. Dearest Jim,
Thank you for your compliment and we love living in this neighborhood too. Our huge garden is a bit too big right now but so far, we've done it.
You are so right about storing the extra as it were only 10 boxes but the problem is, we have no shed! The one storage room we got is for the riding lawn mower and the greenhouse is way too full during winter.
They got stacked under the fiberglass window boxes along the retainer wall of the driveway... So glad we got them out of the way there!
But I sure felt proud for having located them, without our PC this would not have been possible.
And yes, I've now slept 3 nights without pain and feel happy!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

Thank you and especially the entrance should extend a very warm welcome to visitors.
Pieter has been spray painting 'on sale' pots that he collects year round; always on the lookout!
Thank you dear and I'm now sleeping very well, without pain.

We are still forced to live indoors mainly due to an unusual wet monsoon we're having all of May here in Georgia!
      So longing for sunshine...

  6. I hate having jobs done around the house, but it is such a joy when all is finished, the men have left, and you are happy with how it looks.
Your home looks very smart Mariette, the terracotta beautifully complimenting the ochre colour of your home.
Sorry you have not been feeling well, and have had to contend with lots of rain. Strangely we are actually desparate now for some rain as we have not seen any at all during the month of May.

    1. Dearest Rosemary,
You are absolutely right but we always should focus on the end result and know that it will be far better!
We need to have some more indoor jobs done that have been postponed due to my condition but that too shall pass.
One certainly can match the paint color with the Golden Mist form Benjamin Moore that is on the house and Pieter managed to do that by spray painting those planters.
Oh, please receive our rain; it still goes on and no relief for the entire upcoming week...
      Hugs,
      Mariette

Yes, that Mega job got completed four years ago but this one corner was left out because the Hibiscus shrub, almost a little tree, that resided there. But it went down and so this idea became a strong one and happily got executed too.
