Bye-bye Spanish Moss and dear Friends...

On December 6 of 1990, it was our final day at home in Dublin and for Dad it was bye-bye Spanish Moss and dear Friends where he'd stayed with us the first days before we moved into our new home.
Dad loved this section of Akerman St. in Dublin, GA where the Spanish Moss hung so lavishly.
Can you imagine this was on December 6?!
Blue sky and Dad walks in his shirt...
Uncle Bo Whaley stopped by to say his goodbye...
Dear friend Somai stopped by to drop off a gift for Mom, for Dad to take home next day...
We all 3 did stay with her and husband Bob for five nights till we could make our own beds here in the new home, after finding everything inside those 110 boxes...
Always tough to leave friends, home and everything behind when flying across the Oceans, back to work in Indonesia...
Bye-Bye Dublin, Georgia...
Next day we flew with Dad on KLM Royal Airlines to Amsterdam, The Netherlands where all of us would gather at the Meeting Point.
Mom with my brother Piet and Rianne and sister Gerd were there!
Dad treated us all on a coffee and they drove home, back to the South in Limburg.
This time they managed to get into the car with 5 adults, contrary to November 11, when brother Harry had his little 3-year old son Johnny with him and thus no space for Mom in his Citroen BX...???

Dad had a nice America adventure and we had great help from him by moving into our new home.

Now it's back to work, next flight to Delhi and then Singapore and finally arriving in Jakarta, Indonesia... Next day flying to final destination, driving up into the mountains where we lived and worked.

Thanks for your visit and comment!

With Dad to Atlanta, Georgia

On Wednesday, December 5 of 1990, I drove with Dad to Atlanta around 9:30.
We first went to a store near the airport for picking up two faux Ficus Trees and next we went to Lenox Square. After lunch at Neiman Marcus with Popovers and strawberry cream and a cup of chicken consommé we did some shopping.
On the 7th, we all would be flying across the Atlantic Ocean again...
On my way over to Lenox Square I did briefly exit at 249C for standing here and making this photo for Dad.
The Westin Peachtree Plaza, 2nd from left is perfectly visible!
Here you can see part of Atlanta Downtown on the way back South again as Dad took it through the rear window - including my faux Ficus Trees...
Our mission for getting these two faux Ficus Trees to make our new home look somewhat more lived in...
From a distance...
We had to leave within two days and the garden would be worked on while we were gone!

Thanks for your visit and comment.

Uncle Bo Whaley gave 'Welcome Home' Dinner in Honor of Dad

On December 4, 1990 Uncle Bo Whaley did organize a special 'Welcome Home' dinner in honor of Dad.
We had gone in the morning to Savannah and spent a lovely day there, so by 16:00 we were back home and got ready to go to the Country Club.
Uncle Bo Whaley is seated to the left, me in the center with back towards you... Dad to my right.
Sadly, there are only four people still alive from this gathering of special friends in honor of Dad!
The then local bank director, seated opposite me and his wife in white blouse to the left of him.
Also the lawyer's wife in blue jacket is still with us...
Before we all got seated we mingled and Dad got a little bit to know each one of them.
Uncle Bo Whaley had even ordered a corsage for me... according to what I would be wearing...
He was quite a gentleman this former FBI agent and writer!
All 13 of us in this photo, with Pieter seated to the right of my Dad...
Taken from the other end, with Pieter barely visible.
Husband Pieter took this from the other end of the table...
This was only 3 days before our departure, with Dad flying back to The Netherlands, and Pieter and I continuing on to Indonesia; back to work!

Fond memories of dear friends!
With special warm thoughts of Uncle Bo Whaley who always embraced all of my family...

Thanks for your visit and comment!

Dad in Savannah, Georgia

On December 4 of 1990, we went with Dad to Savannah.
Dad LOVED Savannah!
Here he is at the Savannah River with the Talmadge Memorial Bridge in the back.
Riverside is such a lovely place to stroll!
Yep, this is where our belongings arrived per sea container in 1983...
This time, 1990, they did arrive in Charleston, South Carolina.
Of course we all three went inside the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
That is me crossing the street in my boots.
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist now looks a lot better without all that 1990 wiring around!
Dad standing near those palm trees that line Savannah Georgia's streets.
Husband Pieter took this picture of me with the horse and carriage. Wearing my winter boots but it was a lovely day!
We did enjoy a coffee in the Hyatt Regency lounge while overlooking the Savannah River and Talmadge Memorial Bridge...

Lovely day spent and we did quite some walking from where we parked our car below the parking garage at the Hyatt Regency.

Dad Sang The First Noel and Thank You Lord at Presbyterian Church

On December 2, 1990, Dad sang two solos at our local Presbyterian Church.
Because of that, Pieter went with him on Friday, November 30, right after they went together to the Rotary Club lunch, to the Dublin Presbyterian Church.
Dad could practice his songs with the organist.
Here, Dad is practicing, in his choir robe that he would have to wear on Sunday.
This was Dad's FIRST performance in public, in the United States!
Husband Pieter took these photos...
Here, Dad is seen to the right, in front of Dublin's Presbyterian Church.
On Sunday, December 2, 1990 Mass went well, including Dad's two solos.
On the right page, about center, is mentioned - Special Music: "The First Noel" Piet Van den Munckhof and Dad also sang "Thank You Lord"
Both went very well and it made us proud.
We were invited at the home of some other friends for dinner.

Thanks for your visit and comment.

With Dad to Okefenokee on the Georgia/Florida State Line

On December 1, 1990 we drove to the south of our state Georgia, right on the line with Florida.
For a very special visit with Dad!
Here Dad and I are walking some of the board walks with clear blue sky as you see and too harsh light for decent photos...
Sadly, the original boardwalk that we walked with Dad, got lost in the 2007 Big Turnaround Fire...
See this informative 'The Okefenokee Swamp Park' video here.
Pieter and Dad together.
Pieter wearing his leather 'The Bridge' bag, precious gift from friends in Italy...
Okefenokee means 'Trembling Earth' - glad Dad got to experience this!
Enjoy this very short still video from our trip in 1990 with Dad, a guided boat tour down the original Seminole Indian waterways!
It starts out briefly with Dad working in our garden, sawing wood, with the assistance of a friendly neighborhood dog named Ellis...

You get to see a gator as well!

Blessing of our New Home with Dad being Present

On November 30 of 1990, our Pastor came to bless our new home.
It was very special that Dad, the Patriarch of our Family, could be present as well.
On Friday, November 30, Father Conrad Schmitt from our Catholic Church came for the special Blessing of our New Home around 17:30!
Just as Heeroom (brother of my Paternal Grandmother) had blessed the home where Mom & Dad resided all their married years...
We had our previous home also officially blessed by Father Toner, on December 3 of 1984.
Father Conrad Schmitt and my Dad in the door way and me...
Well, I still was preparing dinner for us to enjoy afterward... hence my apron!
After dinner, Dad sat with Father Conrad and we enjoyed a very special evening.
Even the cook got to take her apron off...
Too bad that poor Pieter is not in any photo but he got his blessing!

Thanks for your visit and comment
