This species is smooth leaved and soft, guess it was flexible enough for passing through the door opening one last time. We can have winters here which are very mild but it also can suddenly freeze. You know we are at the lattitude of Tunesia so that is way south too. We just hope the best and with some cover when needed, it might live on.
Hugs to you,
MarietteMariette VandenMunckhof-Vedderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16877699174880945452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1974466215163623524.post-11371637306245112042014-07-29T13:33:18.684-04:002014-07-29T13:33:18.684-04:00Good Evening Mariette, Oh my word, your Agave plan...Good Evening Mariette, Oh my word, your Agave plant was very happy living in your greenhouse over the winter period.... it is huge. I am so glad you managed to remove it from the greenhouse in one piece.
When I lived in Cyprus we saw a lot of Agave plants and we also grew them in the garden, but as the temperature was more temperate in the winter the Agave plants survived.
I do hope yours survives as it is a beautiful specimen.
Best Wishes to you.
DaphneIvy, Phyllis and Me!https://www.blogger.com/profile/09988502694544216304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1974466215163623524.post-11685968548527450082014-07-29T09:14:55.488-04:002014-07-29T09:14:55.488-04:00Beste Marianne,

It was getting reading to bloom, and they said that happened only every seventy years ? I think, and then it would die. Sure there are different varieties of...Dearest Kay,
Sure there are different varieties of agave and we too have the one with pointed leaves that go upright, they also have very sharp ends!
We do not have a harsh winter here in the south but most of our plants are subtropical and therefore cannot handle temperatures below 0°C. It can freeze here and if it does, the day- and night temperature is too drastic from around 20°C to e.g. -10°C. Normal winters happen slowly so plants get adjusted but we don't have that in the south.
We will just cover it up when we have frost; that's it!
