{Batik Birds from Indonesia on Silk and Cotton}

Of course, while living and working in Indonesia for over three years,
we did bring home some of its beautiful Batik.
From Bali we got a large batik on cotton, with birds.
This one hangs in our dining room.
From the Kraton Palace in Yogjakarta, Indonesia, we got this beautiful silk batik.
They gave demonstrations inside the Palace, about batik painting and we did buy this.
Together with our best friends from Dublin we visited there during the weekend.
This Palace is worthwhile to visit if you ever travel to Indonesia!
With the glass, it is rather difficult to capture this beauty on silk.
It is hanging in our veranda, where windows are on two sides...
The matting of this one, and also the framing of the top batik, has been done as usual by Irok Gallery. They do museum quality framing!
For some batik making try this link for video.

  2. Hallo Mariette,
Johanna

  3. Hi Mariette, beautiful batik art. There are so many beauties made by human hands in your home. Each time you share with your followers THROUGH one of your treasures from your travels or stays in other countries give us a lesson in class or origin, as performed in this case and that's exciting! This form of painting fabrics with designs such as beautiful is awesome! Thanks Mariette, blessings Rose marie

  5. Beautiful Mariette. We saw the batik process when we were in Sri Lanka. My 15 year old son wants to go to Bali! Who knows -- maybe one day we will make it there. Best wishes for your Sunday. :) Tammy

  7. Dear Mariette,

Thank your for your comment on my blog. Lucky you to have size 34 and get all the bargains! I have a more regular size, which is often sold out! Oh to shop in New York or Florida....I hope one day I will be able too. I have never been to the US before, but you never know what the future may bring.

Your Batik art looks beautiful. I can't remember my grandparents having any batiks, but I know they had antique sarongs on the wall. I liked them very much. They were full of gold and silver threat and little beads, so pretty!!

    Enjoy your new week!

    Lieve groet, Madelief
