{Our Datura Angel's Trumpets}

Already on June 10, Pieter photographed our Brugmansia species 'Angel's Trumpet' with its very first blossoms. Usually they continue to bloom all through summer. This year however, because of the drought, we've waited in vain - nothing has bloomed after these two. Sorry, not much to show but this is it for 2011. We got these beauties from Logee's. This Andean native is sweetly fragrant.
Its botanical name is: Datura inoxia var. quinquecuspida. Common names: devil's trumpet, downy thornapple, toloache, angel's trumpet. Family: Solanaceae (nightshade Family).
Since the extreme heat is over with, the Datura Angel's Trumpet has done her very best to please us. She will till frost and according to the weather forecast that will not be in November... Let's see how these sweetly fragrant blooms develop from a yellow bud into an almost pure white beauty.
Taken from below... I had to really bend backwards.
Those buds appear yellow at first and then turn into white.
Kind of folded together still. Do you see the splotches of white? Below you see them even better.
They grow as pot plants and will be moved inside the greenhouse once the frost is coming.
Our garden feels so relieved after the two scorching hot months... Let's hope things will look better in the spring.

  4. How lovely that you still have lots of green Mariette! My garden is all brown and dry. It's supposed to snow on Friday so I guess it will soon be white! Although I do not like snow, it does make for everything looking beautiful and fresh!

    Happy November to you!
    xo Catherine

  5. Werkelijk een schitterende plant, boom. En de bloemen ruiken ook zo heerlijk, hè? Ik heb de bloemen eens van papier gemaakt en eerst een heel patroon ontworpen, wel mooi geworden.

    Liefs Janny

  12. Dear Mariette
You show flowers that I never seen before. They are beautiful, but some of them are also a little scary.
    The Angel/Cherub Box are amazing!
    Wish you wonderful days!

  13. Dearest Mariette, Your Angel Trumpet is beautiful. Perhaps mine will bloom yet. Our plants have struggled with the drought and heat. I did have an eggplant produce since the weather cooled. Maybe the Angel Trumpet will come along it is looking healthier. Hugs, Ginger

  16. Dearest Mariette,
Your 'Angel's Trumpet' look different from ours. I saw pink one today while we were in my hubby's car. And thought of your beautiful one.
Haha, not my place to say. Let's hope recent strange weather or change of the temperature won't affect your precious garden!!!
I'm having sniffle now, Take Care of yourself, my friend.
Love and Lots of Hugs to you, Orchid*
