{Catalpa Blossoms}

Last year in early June I did write about our Catalpa Bignonioides - Indian Bean Tree. Under this post you can find the link. Now we were fortunate to find some of its beautiful blossoms hanging very low. Good enough for capturing them on camera. Does anyone reading my post, have a catalpa tree in the garden at home? Would love to know from you.
They are really beautiful  and quite exotic looking!
This is the first time that we actually could see them at eye level...

As with all flowers, they don't last that long. By the time the last one opens up, the first one starts already wilting away...
The Catalpa leaves are quite big.
This tree stands near the creek, so moisture is not an issue.
More close up...
A perfect one on the left and it's sibling to the right is wilting away already.
We were fortunate for spotting them all in time!
Did you ever get to see those Catalpa blossoms up close?

  1. Dearest Mariette,
Oh, you are kindly showing us the blossoms so rare to us (or for me, haha).
    Kind of bean tee's flower♡♡♡
Very beautiful and I thought that the shape of the flower looks like iris.
And we can see your explanation "by the time the last one opens up, the first one starts already wilting away" from some of the flowers got a bit brownish on edges. Transient beauty makes flowers more precious like cherry blossoms♬♬♬
    Love you always, xoxo Miyako*

  9. So beautiful! Unfortunately, we don't see the tree in our neighborhood. I love the close ups for the flowers. How wonderful you have them in your garden and can see the flowers when they bloom especially as they don't last long.

  10. Hoi Mariette,

Nederland,
    Elly

Exotic indeed - what a beauty!
The flowers resemble orchids - are the perfumed?

How lovely to have in your garden - even with such a short flowering!

    much love
