Saturday evening we met with our best friends for a special Oktoberfest. Lady Chef Maria from our Italian-Coffee and Wine Bar: Via col Vento - Dublin, GA did treat us to authentic German fare. By the way, Via col Vento means 'Gone With the Wind' in Italian. Maria is the Lady Chef of Ristorante da Maria at +Dublin Farm "Come Home To The Country"
So out came the Dirndls for wearing again. How I still miss my Salzburger Dirndl with roses... You will see those photos below. Scroll down and have a look.

Both of us did pose in front of our Canary Island Palm, with of course one of our felines always in the picture!
It was a great evening - sorry I did not take any photos.
Previously our best friends in Dublin have hosted several bi-annual Oktoberfest for some 300 people.
Here is Pieter's brother Toon to the left, with his Wilhelmien.
Both of them are no longer alive but we have fond memories of 2002.
How I wish I still had my Salzburger Dirndl... it had roses on it!

Do you also have a Dirndl or any outfit for going to the Oktoberfest?
In Munich it was this year the 176th Oktoberfest but I learned that it is being celebrated now the world over. Even Down Under!

ReplyDeletedas erinnert mich, dass ich als Jugendliche auch ein Salzburger Dirndl hatte, aber es hatte ganz winzinge Rosen. Ein Dirndl ist immer schön und steht jeder Frau. Du siehst prima darin aus, heute genauso wie damals. Das war bestimmt ein lustiges Fest.

Liebe Mariette, fesch siehst du aus in deinem Dirndl - und dein Mann in seiner zünftigen Lederhose!!! Und wie viele wudnerbare Erinnerungen bei dir an diese Tracht geknüpft sind! Ich selbst hatte als Kind Dirndln, mochte sie aber nicht. Ich fand mich verkleidet und ich trug lieber praktische Hosen. Inzwischen besitze ich ein einziges Kleid, das ich als (nicht gerade authentisches ;o)) Dirndl tragen kann, wenn ich eines brauche - ein bodenlanges indisches Baumwollkleid im Dindlschnitt, das ich auch beim Ritteressen als mittelalterliches Kleid trug - siehe dieses Posting ganz unten: http://rostrose.blogspot.co.at/2012/04/fachwerk-und-feinschmeck-elsass-teil-7.html

Dochterlief kreeg toen zij klein was(2/3 jaar) van grootouders 2 keer Dirndljurkje als souvenir meegebracht uit Oostenrijk,ik heb het altijd nog bewaard in koffertje op zolder,een is volgens mij ook met roosjes.
Het zal een feest geweest zijn met alles erop en eraan.....want feesten kunnen de Duitsers,Limburgers trouwens ook;-)

What fun to celebrate Oktoberfest with friends. Sounds like it was a wonderful event. You two look great. One year when I was teaching kindergarten, we had an international festival and my class represented Austria -- so I borrowed a lovely dirndl from a lady who worked here at the Austrian Embassy. ReplyDeleteP.S. My cousin taught me to crochet when I was about 20. A flower with leaves in a square -- I made tons and tons of baby and full sized afghans from that one pattern. It's only since blogging that I've been inspired to do more and have actually learned to read patterns. :)

However, First time to feel directly from friend and wonderful to have a special dress for the occasion; you look really lovely♡♡♡ The picture from 2002 must be so precious for you two! It seems that Japan doesn't follow the foot steps yet, at least I don't know here in Japan. Thank you very much for this special post.

Leuk, en nee, ik heb geen Dirndljurk, maar wil er nog wel eens eentje maken, heb pas patronen van een mede lingerie naaister doorgemaild gekregen, nu nog een tijdboompje vinden...;)
ReplyDeleteJe ziet er prachtig uit in je Dirndl jurk Mariette. Je bent ook zo mooi slank! Ik heb het idee dat het dragen van een Dirndl jurk hier in Holland ook een soort 'in' is. Je kunt ze steeds makkelijker kopen. Ook Pieter en zijn broer zien er prima uit! Ik hoop dat het feest leuk was.

ReplyDeleteDear Mariette, reading this post and saw your photo make me think of myself... I haven't got your beautiful dress I am in school uniform with long hair and sock like yours... just some old memories in my mind. I don't have any photo mum and dad never have a camera in their life. I was so shy to speak to ask for a school class photo back in 1975, no body ask me do I want one not even the teacher I was just watching everybody's photo and I was so shy to ask for one, how silly I am. Am I to late to ask for one? :-) I should try, keep thinking about it. Email and ask, Yes! :-) 1977 I bought my first camera, we have some lovely photos for X'mas... our first happy family photos with mum and dad and my sisters and brothers for X'mas, need to find my photo now... it all end up at my brother and sister's, no one ask or talk to me about them... I want it back I still got the camera! You look lovely with the dress... love to visit holland again... its a beautiful country, driving down the road watch house by the river the people the boat people look so clam and happy. ReplyDeleteDas Salzburger Dirndl mit Rosen ist wirklich sehr schön! Ich hatte als Mädel auch einmal ein Dirndl. Lang ist's her. Das habe ich sogar gern gehabt. Denn sonst mag ich Kleider nicht so sehr gern! Ein Dirndl würde ich zu einem passenden Anlass gewiss auch heute noch tragen. Doch die Gelegenheiten sind so extrem selten, daß ich nie wieder ein Dirndl hatte. Auch auf dem Oktoberfest waren wir noch nie (in München), obwohl wir dort Verwandte haben. Aber dann muß man auch im Oktober Zeit haben und das hatten wir nie.
Was ist aus Deinem Dirndl geworden? Vielleicht hätte es heute doch nicht mehr gepasst?
