{Our Luna White Hibiscus or Rose Mallow}

One of our Hibiscus varieties is a HUGE one and it's called 'Luna White Hibiscus or Rose Mallow'. Let me show you how it looks like. First photo is from June 10, 2011... taken by husband Pieter.
We are really talking about a flower that measures 8" or 20.3 cm in diameter!
Does any of you have this huge variety?
Below this post is a link where they are available on line.
This is our Luna Hibiscus on July 1st, in the rain...
Some bug has been snacking on it too!
Husband Pieter also took these photos.
This is another pot, near our greenhouse and also on July 1st.
Back to the spot where also the 2nd photo got taken. Not too happy in the rain.
By the way, behind this pot, to the right you see our Crocosmia flat on the ground, due to the rain.
Heavy daily rain is only great for growing weeds... not for exotic plants!
On July 10 I took these last two photos just before they would wilt away...
They look like pleated raincoats!
Trying so hard to be big, bold and beautiful...

  1. here, they only last for one season unless you bring them indoors. one 'neighbor' on the way to town had a red variety with blooms as big as dinner plates. it was really pretty while it lasted. :)

i like the white even better!

    1. Dearest Theresa,
Oh, they can be humongous indeed but they don't like windy nor rainy weather. Ours do last but Pieter did pot them up as with heavy rain the soil gets eroded too and with their roots exposed, they might die.
      Hugs,

Sure we do enjoy our flowers, the ones that survive those torrential rains... and IF we can capture them on camera with enough daylight.
Again it is pouring down and it is so dark...
      Glad you enjoyed these flowers!
      Hugs and love,

So glad you had some sunny quality time off together! We need some badly but right now we're stuck with all the tropical thunderstorms.
Thanks for your compliments and we're so grateful that the exterior got done before the wet monsoon!
Hugs to both of you and welcome back home.

This summer, more than ever we've been thinking a lot about our beloved Indonesia... Maybe its because of the endless tropical thunderstorms we're getting? As for flowers, it was paradise to us and we certainly miss it!
Hope you do well with baby and the rest of the family.
      Tight hugs to you,

This is a HUGE flower and thus will be hard for keeping indoors. But there are so many varieties we can enjoy. They are lovely and despite the heavy tropical thunderstorms, they tried to do their very best.

Yes, I always love my Dutch things because of you and the chairs I love when I found them in the Antique European shop here, as Alejandro wanted to replace the before chairs of the round table. The carved claw feet on them are so beautiful!

    1. Dearest Tammy,
That is fun to read you got these Luna White Hibiscus yourself. But ours for sure don't win from yours; they've been now for over one month in these tropical thunderstorms on and on. So many leaves got knocked off our trees already. One wants to push a button and escape to some sunny and 'dry' place...
Hugs and thanks for your visit and praise!

  20. Dear Mariette,
I enjoy your beautiful flowers, this one is so big and pretty.
We have red ones here in Dubai, but not near the size of your flowers.
In Egypt they dry the red flowers and make tea out of them, I like drinking the tea, a bit sour but very refreshing even as a cold drink.
I love the colour of your house, so pretty!
    Hugs,
    Angela.

Glad you enjoy our huge Luna White Hibiscus. We have had that hibiscus tea or tisane, also in the United States. Named Flor de Jamaica, has long been available in health food stores, especially in California and other areas influenced by Mexican customs. Flor de Jamaica has a reputation for being a mild natural diuretic.
Thanks for your compliment on our home!
