{505 S Huron Avenue, Mackinaw City, Michigan}

So here we are, at our destination on 505 S Huron Avenue, in Mackinaw City, Michigan and overlooking the enormous Lake Huron and its surface area is 23,011 square miles (59,600 square kilometers)
We did have a private beach but have not used it during our 2-night stay.
It was quite a drive from Detroit Airport to Mackinaw City, Michigan... And it took me far more than 4 hours due to extreme heavy traffic with traffic jam, right at the beginning of my drive.
Were we happy for reaching our Best Western Plus Dockside Waterfront Inn before dark!
We woke up on June 3, to sunshine!
Had to have a photo from this ROSE carpet...
Happy me with my back pack from Last Call Neiman Marcus, ready for having breakfast.
In the distance you see Lake Huron with a ship at the dock.
Husband Pieter standing in front of this large U-shaped hotel. This really was HUGE and also excellent!
But where will we go next... stay tuned!

  1. some friends of ours are going to be in St. Ignace today for a couple days, and I know their view will be much like yours (St. Ignace is just the other side of the bridge). My friend says she hopes to relax in one of those beach chairs and just watch the freighters!

  3. Hello Mariette, I hope that you and Pieter enjoyed your visit to the Great Lakes. I drove around in Michigan once, but never got further than Detroit and Ann Arbor. The history and scenery must be magnificent around Mackinaw City.

    1. Dearest Jim,
We sure did enjoy the Great Lakes.
We have been there several times but to different areas. My first trip to the USA was arriving in Chicago and driving to Holland Michigan where we stayed in a hotel and Pieter conducted a seminar for the Campbell Soup Mushroom people. I had dinner in Saugatuck and toured the mushroom plant near Fennville, called the Glenn Farm. They showed me Grand Rapids, the Ford Museum and Rockford City on the Rogue River. Shopping in Kalamazoo en visited together the Schuler Foods and Bar-Scheeze in Marshall, MI. Vlasic Foods from Campbell Soup had acquired this family business.
Pieter and I also drove to Point West, overlooking Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa so I had lots of Michigan introduction 32 years ago and back a few times to that area.
This was purely for going to the north! We enjoyed the surprisingly beautiful, rolling area very much.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

Oh, als Nederlandse van geboorte, moet ik nóg steeds wennen aan de gigantische afstanden hier in de USA! Nederland is maar zó'n minuscule landje!
      Liefs,

But the drive through the beautiful Huron National Forest, the day before was so rewarding. This view looked amazing too and a great place to stay on a sunny day but we did not do that.

Oh, Lake Huron is for European standards indeed a MONSTER! But most distances here are enormous, compared to the Old World. But we enjoyed nature, while driving and even more while being there.
