{Monarch Butterfly - Danaus Plexippus}

On November 12 I was lucky to capture a beautiful Monarch Butterfly Danaus plexippus while it was feasting on a Citrus Flower.
This is a screen shot from the video I made.
There is a spider inside and on the video you see it come outside.
Twice this Monarch butterfly opened its wings for me; very kind!
Do you notice those thorns on the Citrus tree?
They are mean as hell for bringing inside and out of the greenhouse...

Hope you enjoyed this beautiful Monarch butterfly!

  1. Dear Mariette,

    I love your pretty monarch butterfly - we have often watched from the caterpillar, eating off the swan plant, then the chrysalis and turning into a gorgeous butterfly.
    Enjoy the weekend
    Hugs

  3. Prachtige vlinder, nog nooit in het echt gezien. Heb er wel een aardig boek over gelezen "Vlieggedrag" van Barbara Kingsolver.

  5. Dearest Mariette,
    What a treat to see your Monarch butterfly. We used to have them all over but only saw two this year.
    Citrus tree thorns are little swords designed to stab us. We wear heavy gloves when we bring the Key Lime tree in for the winter and still manage to get a least one good scratch! It does make me wonder just what they were surviving to have such thorns.
    Enjoy your week end..............*s*

  15. It's great to see a Monarch, a species which has declined precipitously in recent years. Fortunately this year there appears to be a slight resurgence in numbers but we still have a long way to go to get back to former levels.
