Our Japanese Magnolias in Full Bloom

Due to some extremely warm days in January we had our Japanese Magnolia, Magnolia x soulangeana in Full Bloom on January 27!
That was Mom's 2nd anniversary in heaven...
Strange as they usually would bloom on her Birthday, February 12!
Here they are already shedding their petals, on February 4!
But because of some dark weather I could not make photos...
Photo is taken from the neighbor's side, over the Vinyl Picket Fence towards our home.
This is taken from our side towards the road.
It is not entirely blue skies but enough light in-betweeen.
Looking at our veranda and kitchen bay window area.
Our patio is not yet filled with all planters, they still remain in the greenhouse.
Love this Vinyl Picket Fence!
This photo I also used for new header...
Oh, how I love those Blooms!
Here you see the fully open bloom and the more closed ones.
Petals are falling...
This is perfect, the color against the Southern Magnolia as a back drop.
Sad that for only about 2 weeks you can enjoy them!
That is, without frost as they turn brown and floppy...
Had to share these beauties with you.
We do have a second tree which is a lot later and not as good as one year a huge pine tree fell into it, splitting it in half.
But it survived and we get some flowers every spring.
After heavy rains and thunderstorms on the 7th of February, this was the view on February 9, from our veranda.
By the way, these 3 windows need to get a new Fleur de Lys crocheted curtain later.
Only 50 hours...

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Just gorgeous! We call these tulip magnolias. I don't have one in our garden, but there are many in the neighborhood. They are in bloom now.

Yes, also in Dutch we called them like that and they do resemble the tulip very much!
It is but a brief period but we better do enjoy them while they last.
      Hugs,

    1. Dearest Claudia,
A tiny garden is a bit of a problem indeed.
In my hometown of Horst, The Netherlands there was a villa and in that garden there was a huge Japanese magnolia tree. Till they had to take it away for changing the width of the road... So sad.
      Hugs and happy new week.

Yes, we were lucky this year as there was no more frost so the buds could fully grow out and open up. We had so many years that they all turned brown.
Let's enjoy this beauty while it lasts.
Happy new week to you and hugs,

      Liefs,
      Mariette

  13. Dearest Mariette - thank you for sharing your beautiful Japanese Magnolia tree with us ... Here in Toronto we can use all the reminders of spring ... it's been non -stop snowing all day --- we are buried in snow despite the numerous rounds of shoveling all day... wishing you both a blessed week ahead. Hugs, C.

My Mother had one in her front yard and it would bloom around Easter time. So special that it is blooming for your dear Mother's anniversary. Sending hugs xo Karen
