Husband Pieter's 2nd and 3rd Trip to Australia

There were two more solo trips for husband Pieter, before we went together to Australia...
Sydney from above in 1981...
This was a gift and it is hanging in our staircase area.
Pieter, did enter Australia on August 14, 1981 and he left on August 20, 1981.
Pieter did attend the Eleventh International Scientific Congress on the Cultivation of Edible Fungi or XI ISCCEF in Sydney 1981
The only photo we have is this, where Pieter stands looking up, with his leather bag.
This was at the John Baker Mushroom farm visit.

Another trip for husband Pieter, to Australia came up quite unexpectedly.
On Friday, May 15, in 1987 around noon, Pieter got the message from his Campbell Soup boss, that he had to go to Australia on the 23rd of May!
That was at the time that my Parents had flown back with us, coming from Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Atlanta/USA for their very 1st flight!
Staying with us for one month.

On May 16, I flew together with Mom & Dad to Amsterdam and on Monday 18, I drove the 290 km to Rechterfeld, north Germany to work at a big mushroom farm.
Pieter was in Canada for Campbell Soup on the 18th.
Happy because I got to see 3 x in a row the Japanese Magnolias bloom...
Dublin, Georgia/USA
Horst my hometown in The Netherlands
 and again in north Germany!

May 21, Pieter called from Canada and home in Dublin, Georgia on the 22nd.
Pieter left for Australia on Saturday, the 23rd of May, arriving in Melbourne on May 25...
May 27, Pieter called me in Germany, from Australia.
On May 31, Pieter left from Sydney, back to the USA...
Monday, June 1, he got back home in Dublin, GA/USA and called me in Horst, The Netherlands and on June 3, I flew back home to Atlanta with Dutch business man Jan Thielen, my youngest brother's boss.

Happy to be united!

We lived a very intense and busy life... but gathered lots of fond memories!

Thanks for your visit and comments.

  1. Your husband Pieter’s third trip to Australia, it came with such a short notice! Especially when he was flying to Southern Hemisphere...! You sure had very busy life on a global stage!

    1. Dearest Tamago,
Yep, that is typical for such conglomerates like Campbell Soup!
Pieter had a hard time for booking a round trip ticket on such short notice and he went via New Zealand...
It was very busy and hectic at that time; glad we live a calmer life now!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    1. Dearest Claudia,
Memories yes, but not really lovely about such a very short congress trip and even less for a short-notice and hectic business trip! Quite different from a vacation...

  6. Hello Mariette, What a busy schedule. How did you know where you were on a given day? You and Pieter certainly didn't let any grass grow under your feet, even if you did the mushrooms some good!

    1. Dearest Jim,
In those years when friends discussed us being 'somewhere' and even in different continents, Pieter joked about it and said: 'We only have one rule, come what be but for Christmas day we will be together!'...
The fact was that Campbell Soup did not let me do any mushroom related consulting within the US, as a conflict of interest so my work field was elsewhere! Such was the rule for anyone in a VP position.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  7. Dear Mariette,
How admirable to know that Pieter and you were very active in the global society.
Also it is surprising that you have good memories. Interesting to see Australian fungi.
Your new header is lovely. I see those two tea cups are for you and for Pieter.

Sorry I was not able to visit you. I am busy visiting my mother in Tokyo. Lovely day to both of you!

    1. Dearest Tomoko,
We sure did enjoy traveling the world, even though this was not an easy way of doing it; never time to adjust to the climate or time zone but we had to lecture or do training!
As for the good memories; yes it is written down in our diaries! Otherwise forget it.
Yep, our teacups that we use often for green tea.
Hope you are doing okay with your busy schedule, looking after your dear Mom!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    1. Beste Marian,
Ja hoor, agenda's en Pieter' day by day aantekeningen voor werk, training en meetings.
      Liefs,
      Mariette
