THIS is Again in the Planning - Biking at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain

Sure we want to go back there!
Callaway Gardens is only 30 miles north of Columbus.
That's where we stayed for our RiverWalk bike and on the next day we biked here at Callaway Gardens before driving back home on October 6 of 2017.
Overlooking Pine Mountain Valley, across from Callaway Gardens Country Store.
Both of us were impressed with this area near Pine Mountain!
Behind Pieter you see to the right the sign of Callaway Gardens Country Store, across from Hwy. 27.
Callaway Gardens Property starts already to the right as well.
Standing at this overlook and Callaway Gardens runs on the other side of Hwy. 27.
We had no idea that Pine Mountain Valley would look like this!
Riding towards the Discovery Center for parking our car and using the restroom.
Behind the Discovery Center is a small restaurant.
First we opt for a cup of coffee before we ride our bikes!
And of course seating outdoors with such surroundings, here at Mountain Creek Lake.
Callaway Gardens can be reached from the crossing of Hwy. 27 and turning onto Hwy. 354 (for us it was a left turn, coming from Columbus which is more south.
The Gardens/Property Map just click link for Pdf of above map.
Bottom right you see the crossing of Hwy. 27 (coming from the left) with Hwy. 354.
The Lookout spot was top left of this map, where it reads: To Columbus, that's where the Country Store is and it is all along the vast property!
It is such a VAST area, we got overwhelmed.
Below this post is a short video, giving you a far better impression of Callaway Gardens.
Pieter enjoying his cup of coffee in such a beautiful surrounding of Mountain Creek Lake.
Yes, we WILL be back here!
Nature around you is incredible; this Great Blue Heron visited us.
Dreaming away while overlooking Mountain Creek Lake and wishing it would not be 2.5 hour driving distance from our home to BE here!
What a joy for being able to bike completely surrounded by nature, so quiet and safe biking too!
Here I stand looking at Hummingbird Lake, one of 13 lakes at Callaway Gardens...
The person who sat up this piece of Paradise deserves some kudos; post humously!
We both feel fortunate for living in such a great State as Georgia has so much to offer.
And for October weather, that compares to mid-summer weather in my birth country of The Netherlands... One BIG reason why we love it here!

Thanks for your visit and comment!

  1. What a gorgeous area. Too bad I didn't know about it when I lived in Georgia from 1989-91. My first husband and I lived in Cordele, GA and after we got divorced, he moved to Columbus and lived there for a while. Now I think he is somewhere in Alabama.

    1. Dearest Tammy,
That is indeed too bad as you were very close. But believe it or not, this was our very first visit ever to Callaway Gardens in 34 years!
Love that region and also Columbus for doing that RiverWalk bike ride again but every day there is rain in the forecast... Not worth driving the two hours for getting rained on!
      Sending you hugs,
      Mariette

  2. Hello Mariette, Callaway Gardens is very grand, with magnificent vistas and those beautiful lakes. What a great resource to hike or bicycle in! You remind me that I have to take more time visiting Ohio's own wonderful natural resources.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Isn't that the truth that we never fully explore our birth area's wonderful natural resources. There is still a lot that I never got to visiting in The Netherlands; such a tiny country! But this gem is worthwhile for going back and we will; when the weather gets stable again.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  3. How lovely to have such spectacular scenery not too far away where you can both cycle safely and happily. I hope that you do succeed in making a visit there during October. To be in lovely surroundings is really a refreshing tonic to both our bodies and the mind.

    1. Dearest Rosemary,
Well, we plan to go there earlier than late October! It was last October that we discovered this gem but the weather forecast is full of rain and we cannot risk that.
This is the healthiest environment for being indeed and the mind benefits as much as the body.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

So you sure beat me on that with several visits! We want to go back soon, when the rain goes away.
The driving distance is about the same from our area as it is for you; except you can travel via Interstate!

      Mariette
