Spring 2019 is Slowly Arriving

Just want to show you some blossom photos before we continue with more mushroom related history.
We had some rainy days and that is not best for Camellias, as they easily brown.
Here are four Pink Perfection beauties together inside a creamware cachepot on February 21.
On our kitchen bay window sill and as you can see, outside the grass is still brown!
An oval Wedgwood Cream Color on Cream Color bowl filled with White Camellias.
On a rainy day, February 19, I filled this silver plated vase with some fragrant Ehrlicheer Narcissus.
My hands reflect inside the glossy silver.
This vase is half a century old, a sweet gift from my sister Diny on my birthday!
Memories carried across the ocean...
Had to place this vase on the living room window sill for some light as it was a gloom day!
Longing for being able to use our balcony again but that takes some time.
This is our second Japanese Magnolia tree on Mom's 5th Birthday in heaven, February 12.
Closer view.
This is actually half of a tree as a big tree fell into it years ago and damaged half of it.
But it has grown back remarkably well over the years and we treasure its blossoms as they can be seen from the bay window in the kitchen and from the veranda.
This is the other tree that is looking a lot fuller. On the opposite side it will become fuller now since last year we had a big limb from the neighboring oak tree sawn off so the light can now reach the Magnolia tree.
A heavenly view from the kitchen bay window.
Look at all the leaves on the roof near the gutter... from heavy rain and wind!
This is five days later, most of the petals are knocked down from heavy rain...
Here you see that the tree had been growing more to the left, towards the light and on the right sight it will gradually fill in and become more rounded. That usually takes five years, Mother Nature takes its time for healing.

Hope you also are slowly enjoying spring flowers and of course the southern hemisphere still enjoys end of summer blossoms.

Thanks for your visit and comments!

  1. Hello Mariette,
Pretty silver vase of Camellias. One of these days maybe I will have luck growing them. Is there a secret to keeping them alive? I have lost several over the years.
I like the shot of the Magnolia with the archway. A pretty shot. Your home is a fine one.
Wishing you a good week ahead

    1. Dearest Betsy,
Thank you and the silver vase is pretty and elegant. But in it ware Ehrlicheer Narcissus.
As for Camellias, they don't cause us any problems here. Only the rain affects the flowers as they easily get bruised and turn brown.
Yeah, the archway, our rose arbor is a nice addition to the garden.
Sadly, the two roses planted on either side are not happy so that dream will not get realized I'm afraid!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    1. Dearest Krishna,
Guess all humans long for sunshine and warmth for being able to live outdoors more...
Now the Japanese magnolia starts showing its green leaves, most petals are down from the rain.
But this is refreshing to see nature becoming active again after three months of hibernation.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  7. Hello Mariette, I too love to display the gifts I have got from others. Every day I see pictures and decorations that remind me of the friends who gave them. Even my granite dining room table was a gift from a friend who was moving back to America.

  12. Dearest Michiko san,
Yes, Mother Nature will no doubt heal those Japanese Magnolia trees, the one after a huge tree broke off half of it and the other where the big tree branch hung down. Now the sunlight can get to it.
Thanks for your visit and comment!

  13. What pretty flowers to show, Mariette. Spring is not hear yet. We are expecting some show tomorrow. Sometimes it doesn't arrive, which is what I hope, as I'm spending my last night in the hotel. So no snow boots if show comes. I return home tomorrow, but still have so much to do including finding those show boots when I unpack boxes and organize everything back into closets. Still no gas for cooking in our building -- that often takes months. Other buidlings have had to wait anywhere from 6 months to 18 months because the gas company needs to inspect each and every apartment and repair any leaks found. It is amazing how one person who sparked a fire can disrupt and upset an entire building of people.

    1. Dearest Debbie,
Glad that you finally can go back home, even if life is not yet complete as you cannot cook or do anything without gas. What a horror indeed and often the punishment towards any person causing this kind of disruption for many, is way too little...
Let's hope you find your snow boots and get prepared for any type of weather still coming your way.
But keep in mind, however grim life may look at times, spring will be coming your way!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

Thank you and don't you think that these Camellias truly resemble roses?
The Japanese Magnolia tree is every year the first one here that gets new leaves.
We too are longing for spring, again rain and windy and frost tomorrow night and on Wednesday.
      Hugs,
