Husband Pieter wrote about me: POET–PITBULL–PRODUCTIVE

On July 12, 2000 the day before we had to travel all the way to Jakarta, Indonesia for our 3 weeks of consulting work, we were out of of power due to an enormous thunder storm + rain!
So doing my laundry got halted and while waiting on my machines and having something to do, I started typing the 17 letters to all our relatives and friends...
Got done by 2:30 AM and after reading them all, Pieter would put them back inside their envelope and put the stamp etc. on.
Good feeling always!
Yes, I sure am a PITBULL and will not easy let go of things till DONE!
Making the best out of such a power outage and getting it ALL done.
We only had come back home from two weddings in Europe, shortly before this work trip so things got kind of back–to–back but my Pieter and I always have been able to handle it.
Being 2 consecutive nights on the plane, we would collapse in our chairs!!!
Next day at the Atlanta Airport waiting for boarding on our 22nd trip to work in Indonesia...
Atlanta to Amsterdam and from there on another flight to Singapore and on to Jakarta, Indonesia.
Feeling good for having accomplished a lot before taking off!
So, this is how a PITBULL looks...
In Amsterdam, at Schiphol airport and of course using the coin booth for calling Mom & Dad
~
On August 6, we were home again.
That's how we accumulated our 1,500,000 miles in the air and more!

Trip # 50 to Amsterdam from Atlanta we made on June 23, for attending the wedding of Pieter's brother's adopted daughter... and also of our German 'son' on July 1st and back home on July 6.
So only 6 days in-between... That forced one for being VERY PRODUCTIVE!

By the way, on September 9, 1986 I still was a member of the POETRY CLUB...
The above 'whale' was my design for writer Uncle Bo Whaley

    1. Dearest Martha Jane,
Yes, we sure did but this was never for leisure traveling but just going to work back and forth! Twice we booked a bus-trip vacation when flying over to Amsterdam for visiting family and once a cruise, when we first visited Dad numerous times. He passed away within weeks after returning home. Good feelings!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

I have so enjoyed all your travelogues, even if I have not commented.
BTW you are the prettiest 'pit bull' ever! 🤭

    1. Dearest Suzi,
Well the previous ones were in fact true travelogues for our rare vacations out of 66 trips to The Netherlands. But this was just going back to work and long distance that is...
Thank you very much for your compliment!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  6. What tenacity - I know from my own travels that raking in that many air miles is not an easy feat Mariette - that's a lot of air time! Now if only we could continue using them and get out of the house, fly/cruise away. . . . . . I can hardly wait! We are thinking of using up ours asap when air travel is possible, and then joining a world cruise, probably with Cunard (we love the 3 Queens). I can already feel the joy of relaxing onboard with fun people to talk to, good service, great entertainment, no cooking (I'm cooked out!) and lovely shore excursions around the world. Done a lot of travel before COVID but am ready for more before aging out perhaps!!!

    Enjoy each day - Mary

    1. Dearest Mary,
We both commuted back and forth to work; not leisure travels or vacation where you can rest upon arrival!
Cruising for both of us is out of question as their food is too high in sodium, even if you request low sodium. Understandable if dealing with such large groups!

  11. You in an airport, even though it was a while back...makes me want to go somewhere...anywhere! We like so many others that have been housebound are planning a trip for ‘22. Going back to Paris one more time. Have leased an apt. and will take all five daughters. Lots of planning going on...even though it’s more than a year away!

I noticed that Escada bag right away...You do love that designer!

    1. Dearest Janey,
Yes, we all are yearning for freedom and for being able to spread our 'wings'.
Great for taking all five daughters to Paris and residing at an appartement!
Time passes fast and it sure helps when placing such a joyful mile-marker ahead of your for working your way towards!
Oh, those Escada Outlets, or Company Stores as they got called back then, have been a Godsend, no more sewing and their quality lasts and last.
Had it for carrying a special beautycase, filled with makeup and lots of samples from Neiman Marcus, for our foster-daughter Anita who while at college made some money doing bridal makeup etc. We loved traveling carry-on and especially going to the tropics; you easily could!
      Hugs,
      Mariette
