Gottlieben on Lake Constance, Switzerland

Hotel Drachenburg & Waaghaus in Gottlieben, Switzerland
Love the old car being parked there as it proves this is from 1963.
By the way, it was NOT Pieter's car, he had an Austin Glider back then.
Photo taken from the side AND with Pieter's Austin Glider parked under the tree in the back...
Same wall as in above photo but now showing the left building as well.
Right behind hotel Drachenburg and restaurant Waaghaus is the River Rhine that passes through Lake Constance (Bodensee in German), and flows from Switzerland into Germany.
Pieter is looking at some fishing bait...?
Yep, he was still in his smoking years!
Great photos captured again by our Swiss mushroom friends.
Boys remain boys...!
By the way, the River Rhine contains cold water and it flows right below the 'warmer water' of Lake Constance.
A very mild climate at its shore lines!
Feeding fish...?

For getting an overview of how this looks like on the water, this is a short 2:01 video Hotel Drachenburg & Waaghaus AG, Gottlieben

Till next Swiss visit...

  2. Hello Mariette, I am glad that Pieter gave up smoking--the smartest thing he ever did! I like the juxtaposition of the old-world buildings and the common action of fishing or feeding the fish, the kind of activity to be found in all places.

    1. Dearest Jim,
      That sure was very smart!
Wherever in the world we can find common action of fishing or feeding the fish and it kind of connects us...

  3. I Googled the hotel, it looks the same today, from the outside. There's even an image that comes up with a car parked in the same spot as in your photo...though of course not the same car. LOL.

Gosh, it was the 60s, smoking is what everyone did! Pieter indeed was wise to give it up, though.

As a side note, I have the first three seasons (on DVD) of the original "Mission Impossible" TV series and just smile and shake my head at the clouds of smoke around the actors' heads in so many scenes. It seems so bizarre from our perspective now, though I grew up in the 70s with people smoking all around me, including my mother (who still, at 80, smokes like a chimney). Fortunately I never took up the habit!

    1. Dearest Kim,
That is a very old hotel and guess the upkeep is quite costly too. Love the picture in this photo that Pieter took, such a mark the year 1963.
Yes, Pieter quit cold turkey at age 50 and that is great.
When we grew up, even movie stars posed with a sigaret; it was a status symbol!
Like you, never took up the habit, had my tonsils removed at age 18 and smoking hurt like hell; so I quit! Just had started and smoked only a handful over my lungs...
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    1. Querida Antónia,
Sí, es una arquitectura encantadora en esa parte de Suiza. Me alegro de haber escaneado todas las diapositivas para dejar que Pieter reviviera estos momentos una vez más. Ojalá yo también lo hubiera visto.
      Abrazos,
