My Mom was most amazed at how well Pieter knew my size... He told her that he had put his two hands around the waist of a Chinese sales person to check and said; that's the size!
He always could just touch his fingers by doing this around my waist...

We both LOVED Indonesia and its friendly people, delicious food and its flora and fauna.

Well, all that rain makes the plants and trees look the way they do...

That's what we loved to do upon arrival, rise early (is quite normal for the tropics!), breakfast and lingering at the pool and afterwards, walking in the botanical gardens...

Beautiful photos and great capture of the ghecko. I think people forget that houseplants are actually plants that grow in the wild and have a natural habitat somewhere out there in this great big world. They have to come from somewhere. I miss having true nature to go to. Plus, it's 110 F now which is not exactly pleasant. Take care.

Hello Mariette, You and Pieter discovered and enjoyed everything that made Indonesia a tropical paradise. Even though I have lived here a long time now, I still smile when I see "houseplants" growing wild and to huge dimensions. I suppose you could get up really early to beat the summer heat, but I prefer to sleep in. The lizards in Indonesia are much cuter than those in Taiwan, which are sort of fat and make a lot of noise in the middle of the night.

ReplyDeleteHow times have changed, at least in the west! You could NOT put your hands around the waist of a salesperson today, to measure size. LOL. I don't think you could have done it even in the mid-'80s to early '90s when I worked in retail selling women's business clothing. Pieter was a good judge of your size; I found that wasn't the case for 99% of the male customers we served. :-D

Haha, in China it worked for Pieter back then. Not speaking the language and knowing exactly my waist size that way, worked out perfect! Bet your observation of male customers is rather accurate in general.

DeleteYes Java and Bali, the parts we do know from Indonesia, are a true botanical paradise. Animals and birds we never got to see much, only once a deer-like species when driving up to the Dieng area. Overpopulation of people is a very negative aspect for nature.
