On Sunday, June 24 in 1995 while doing consulting work in Indonesia we went with one of the staff people to visit Retreat House Pratista, Cimahi, near Bandung, Indonesia.
There was a Dutch speaking pastor at this Crosier Monastery or Monastery of the Order of the Holy Cross (Kruisheren in Dutch).
When Pieter spotted the organ, he just started playing... without any music, just by heart!
Hope you enjoy this 1:37 minute video.
Starting video with the different Cross they use, not one of the suffering Christ!
The staff member seen in this video became our house guest end of August, the day after my sister and significant other left, after staying four weeks with us.
On Saturday August 26, 1995 he flew with us together to San Francisco.
On Sunday we got picked up, for going to Santa Cruz where Pieter did a Phase I and Phase II seminar for Campbell Soup for 54 participants.
Those were tough one-man shows for Pieter doing it solo for two days and half a day a farm tour towards the end.
Pieter did wear a Batik shirt, my sewing creation. The late Pastor Vermuilen was looking on...

Abrazos, Mariette
Hello Mariette, Yet another of Pieter's talents you have hidden from us so far. I suppose it is related to the accordion, but really they are very different techniques, especially compared to the button-box type, which I believe you stated that Pieter originally played. It is nice to have some music memorized so that when you get the opportunity, you can display your talent. --Jim
Dearest Jim, Oh, some of my posts are done to surprise my/our readers! At least in no way have we both lived a boring life. Yes, you remember well that Pieter originally learned to play the button-box type accordion. Pieter used to have a photographic memory and knew lots of music by heart. As a teacher, he also knew any subject he taught by heart and did not have to reference anything for answering questions. Memorizing things is a good brain exercise and it helps you in aging without problems. Fingers are not as fast as when they were younger but with practice; it all works! Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Peter, Thank you and this was always for work; not leisure travel. We of course indulged in our free weekends and appreciated being toured around by a staffer! Hugs, Mariette
You two never cease to amaze me Mariette!!!!! Loved hearing Pieter's organ recital - I do enjoy organ music. I then opened the link to your batik dress which is so beautiful, and his shirt, both made by you! Your sewing skills remind me of my dear mother - and in fact yesterday I wore a beautiful blouse (a woven Swiss cotton) she made for me some 30 years ago!!!! It's still lovely and knowing she made it makes it, and another similar one I still have, very special. She was a Royal dressmaker and actually made clothes for Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (current Queen's late mother) when she apprenticed in an atelier on Bond Street in London, in the mid-1930's, including a dress for the famous Ascot annual horse race. Memories, such as what we apparently share, are special aren't they? Hugs - Mary
Dearest Mary, Well, we just walked upon that organ and Pieter could not resist playing it... Great for still wearing and enjoying your Mom's superb sewing skills! I've quite sewing after discovering the Escada Outlet malls, that brand fits so perfectly and it is a lot easier. Those are TRUE memories and you ought to treasure them for as long as you breath. Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Christina, Thank you but Pieter never played the piano, but the organ instead. Long time ago I did sew clothes but for about twenty five years, I only buy at Outlets. Hugs, Mariette
Very talented. I enjoyed the video, Mariette. Thanx.
