Weeding and the fight against Dollar Weed (Hydrocotyle spp.)

Living in a subtropical region has advantages but also lots of disadvantages in having more invasive weeds growing FAST!
So weeding them out is a constant battle...
Any little piece of rhizomes and/or tubers overlooked, will start new growth fast!
Yes, we got lots of DOLLARS but they certainly are the wrong green color... 😉
What a fight for getting a nice clean patch for planting our strawberries!
This very short 1:42 min. video is best watched on YouTube and you find clickable points below with English text.

  1. That's what I've been doing in our garden all last week. Very tiring work.

    Thanx Mariette. God bless.

    1. Dearest Victor,
It is never easy for having to bend all the way down... It challenges our flexibility!

  2. I hate weeding, even in my tiny 16x18 space, which is why it looks such a mess. LOL. I don't think I'd want to tackle what you've both had to! :-P

    1. Dearest Kim,
It is an ongoing battle, but at times oh so rewarding!
Love being next to the critters that are almost 'tame'.
      Hugs,

  3. That is painstaking work for sure, Mariette. I'm guessing you all couldn't use a rotter tiller?
    Blessings!

    1. Dearest Martha Jane,
It mostly has been painstaking but we got it done.
A Rotator tiller cannot be used everywhere and with big roots in the ground it is tough.
Also for selective weeding, you have to use your hands or you sacrifice your 'plants' with the weeds!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. Hello Mariette, So many of your gardening and flower videos have made me regret never having my own garden, but not this weeding video! I loved that in the midst of all this mud and hard work, Pieter took time to appreciate the fruit blossoms, never forgetting the loveliness inherent in all gardening and nature work.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Oh, any garden comes with such amount of love and dedication. Yes, both of us were literally immersed into nature and to see it day-by-day is so rewarding!

Así que muy cierto y, sin embargo, algunas personas nos preguntaron qué tipo de jardín es de bajo mantenimiento. ¡Olvídalo, no hay belleza obtenida sin un trabajo duro y persistente!
      Abrazos,

Yes, there are no gardens without weeds; vegetable or botanical.
