Shipping HEAVY BREAKABLES in USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope Max weight 70 lbs

YEP, that's right!
When I closed a sale on eBay (in my Spectrenoir - Boutique see at top of my Home Page), a French Large Ceramic Antique Cross with Barbotine Roses which measured itself 16 x 10 x 4 inches or 40.6 x 25.4 x 10 cm.

Husband Pieter who is an EXPERT PACKER, had already double boxed this delicate piece.
The measurements of the outer box were: 18 x 13 x 14 inches and the weight was 4 lb or 45.7 x 33 x 35.6 cm and 1.8 kg.
I had NO choice but to select their USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope
Max weight 70 lbs or 31.7 kg
USPS supplied envelope 12.5" x 9.5"

Just to get out of this ridiculous 'no-choice' thing, I switched to UPS service.
That of course was normal, according to size and weight.
Got my QR code on my iPhone and drove the 42 miles to the nearest UPS Store.
It got delivered timely and in perfect condition, got a positive feedback; customer very pleased!
But WHO in his/her right mind can compose such a shipping selection?!
TIMES HAVE CHANGED...

The same applies to required Length and Width for a ROUND box...
Keep getting such messages, for adding item specifics.

BRILLIANT CONCEPT; DON'T YOU AGREE?

  1. Hello Mariette, What can you place in any envelope that weighs 70 pounds, other than possibly neutron star core material? I have had many disastrous experiences with shipping, but the current shipping rates are killing Ebay (along with Ebay's own policies). So often the shipping is much more than the cost of the object!

    1. Dearest Jim,
Oh this policy with the 70 lbs flat rate envelope is so stupid, along with the demanded item specifics.
You are so right about the way too high shipping rates nowadays!

    1. Cara Olga,
Grazie ma questa croce grande e pesante non si adattava all'interno di una busta poiché eBay "mi ha costretto" a spedirla, fino a 70 libbre ...
Sono contento che abbiamo usato UPS invece della normale posta!
      Abbracci,

    1. Dearest Victor,
The same here as well but this was about the forced way by eBay for shipping this inside an envelope... How STUPID!

  4. Good Morning! I have basically stopped mailing anything via USPS, UPS, FEDEX. The cost is exorbitant. Enjoy your day .. thank you for the sweet comment about Carl’s art.

    1. Dearest Helen,
We have done the same, used to mail to Europe but it is no longer doable.
      Carl so earned my comment!

    1. Dearest Christina,
We use it within the USA also but on eBay they forced me to mail it in an envelope... The beautiful cross would never fit of course, so I switched to UPS and got the option with regular box sizes and weight.

    1. Querida Antónia,
La cruz era de hecho demasiado hermosa para no enviarla segura. ¡EBay diciendo que lo enviara como un sobre fue una locura! Así que fuimos con UPS y llegó seguro, doble caja por Pieter.
      Abrazos,
      Mariette

We had to go with UPS for getting out of that Envelope demand. Ridiculous and impossible...
