Roast Beef Canapés

For our Christmas Party with the Chancel Choir I prepared these:
The finished ROSES of Roast Beef Canapés...
Did not have any marygold flowers for garnishing as in the magazines photo below.
Roast Beef Canapés - Victoria Magazine September 2021 recipe in comment click on link to my Pinterest board ROSES as FOOD
On a sheet of parchment I put the baguette slices and brushed them with olive oil.
Into the oven for 15 minutes on 370℉
While they cooled down, I made the rosettes.
From the thin sliced ¼ pound of roast beef I started cutting each slice in half.
That was NOT mentioned in the recipe however but I figured this out by looking at the roast beef 'roses'.
Next each half needs to be folded over and then rolled into a roast beef rosette...
With a small butter knife I spread the mayonaise mixture on each crostino.
Fanning out three pieces of arugula on mixture, before placing the roast beef rosettes.
Using the Mason's Patent Ironstone Mandalay tray...
It was fun creating these edible roses!
One of our Mason's Patent Ironstone Mandalay vases... with a placemat from Le Jacquard Français.

Wishing you Peace during this time of the year!

    1. Dearest RTC,
It was exactly that, what made me love the picture in the magazine; so I had to make them.
Presenting food in an attractive way is a feast for the eye as well...

Yes, it is very pretty that way and as much as I love 'Roses', this was it to make and bring.
Thank you and Happy 2nd Christmas Day to you as well.

  6. Hello Mariette, Those sure look both good and fun! What prevents them from unrolling? I was always willing to make special food for guests, but I don't think that I ever made decorative food like this--I know my limits!

    1. Dearest Jim,
They looked so appealing in the magazine but they leave you kind of in limbo about how to. The trick is to let them sit on the straight (knife cut) edge after rolling and the folded part is at the top.
If you keep that in mind, it is not difficult at all.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  7. Very pretty and delicious I am sure. We got back from Austin in time to be treated to a home cooked steak dinner at a friends house in Dallas. Busy day packing away Christmas….I am ready for the new year.

Thank you and yes, those are no doubt on our list for repeating.
That Austin trip was a fabulous experience, even if the climbing to get to the scenic overlook was strenuous.
We sure are ready for the new year, hoping to get the exterior painting done this week. Two men are working on it, on and off...
