Pieter playing Silver Threads Among the Gold by H.P. Dank 1873
Another song that husband Pieter was practicing to play as an amateur (without ever having had one single organ or piano lesson): Silver Threads Among the Gold by H.P. Dank 1873
At clickable 2:43 I zoom in on my dried Brizia grasses (Bevertjes in Dutch...), my Mom's favorites!
Dearest Diana, Thank you and if you like to hear him play, under labels (when scrolling down this blog) you find 'Organ' and there are more where Pieter played. Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Debby, Thank you and it is a special instrument, I've always loved to hear my Pieter play and wish I could play as well... Maybe next life? Hugs, Mariette
Hello Mariette, How nice of Pieter to select that old piece. When I collected early records, there were many renditions available--one of my favorites was Elsie Baker's from 1914, which I found on Youtube. The song seems very suited to her voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHDd8W24Ni4
Dearest Jim, Thank you and Pieter always loved it and so do I. Yes, Elsie sings it very, very well. In Dutch we had a couple that sang it too but it was a far cry from Elsie's performance. Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Kim, Thank you so much and he sure has a natural talent in many ways. So glad you, being a keen nature observer, noticed those special grasses. Mom loved them and when I spotted them near our creek I dried them. Hugs, Mariette
Liebe Mariette, Hausmusik ist wunderbar. Es ist so schön für Euch beide, dass Pieter sie pflegt. Danke für das Lied. Viele Grüsse und beste Wünsche von mir. Umarmung Viola
Dearest Christina, Thank you and yes, Pieter manages to read notes of course as he got lessons for playing the accordion but never for piano nor organ. Hugs, Mariette
Bravo! Bravo! *applauds* Very nice, Pieter!
