Broken Water Pipe

On September 26, I had a big scare...
First the Hurricane Warning at 17:32
That was the time I went downstairs to feed the 3 kitties...
Then at 18:53 there was so much water in the staircase area...
Yep, sure needed help in getting the water out.
My Catholic teens came to the rescue and helped with the squeegee to get the water into the garage and out...
By 19:20 someone came and turned off the main valve, as he discovered a broken pipe.
That was the culprit, right under the front porch, where the water pipe entered from outside, it needed repair.
Home Depot was already closed in anticipation of Hurricane Helene so an old piece got used...
A large dehumidifier was left and 4 fans...
Two fans in staircase area...
This one in the laundry room...
Another one in the laundry room...
BUT—by 1:30 AM, I had no power due to Hurricane Helene!
Only 4.5 days later we could finally use the wet vac.

Not a happy time...
But compared to others I cannot complain!

  2. What an ordeal. It is strange how water is good for us, but is so destructive. Glad the Catholic teens helped you. XO

  4. What a time to have your own disaster, with a hurricane on the way to add to the misery. Hope nothing serious happened with wall board from the water and moisture.

  8. Hello Mariette, I am so behind in my computer reading that I have not had time until now to respond. You should not have to be dealing with such large-scale problems, but no one can avoid natural disasters, and with a little help from others, you handled the situation admirably. Please get lots of rest now to recover your strength.

  15. Wow, what a tough situation! Glad your teens were able to help out, and it's good that you had fans and a dehumidifier to try to manage the water. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must have been to wait so long with the power out. At least you're safe, and it’s a good reminder of how much worse things can be for others. Stay safe!

    Hugs and blessings, dearest Mariette

  17. Liebe Mariette,
    Sara
