{Our Camellias}

On December 8, 2013 my husband Pieter did rescue these lovely white Camellias. They are either Camellia Japonica Nuccio's Gem or Camellia Japonica White by the Gate. We both love white flowers but they are very sensitive to rain and wind as they bruise easily. Over the years I have come to admire all those professional growers that deliver perfect corsage Camellias without any blemishes.
Well, these Camellias still look lovely don't you think so?
It is very hard for displaying Camellias as they have NO stem...
So the best way is on a shallow bowl with water but they don't last that long.
Do you have Camellias and if so, what is your favorite color?

  4. Dearest Mariette, Your camellias are so beautiful. I think you have some near perfect specimens pictured. You are so right about their being difficult to display but what beauties they can be. For some reason camellias don't do well on this property. We have lost quite a few. We did have lovelies when we lived in the city and on higher ground.
I am going back to some older posts and try to catch up. Have a great sabbath.
    Love to you, Ginger

Camellias belong to the south but indeed, difficult to display them in a nice way.
Oh, plants do react to a certain soil type and they will waste away when it is not their preferred composition.
      Enjoy your Sunday too!
      Hugs,

Thank you and glad you too have them. It depends on a lot of factors for them to bloom at a certain time but important is they are in bud!
Enjoy yours when they open up.

Hope you are doing okay with those hot days... Too much heat is as bad as having rain all the time. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated enough.
Glad you enjoyed our white Camellias here.

Thank you and yes, one almost can rejoice when they turn out perfectly white without bruises from the environment. Guess there are almost endless colors and also variegated ones. Sure, they come from Japan and I bet over there in your birth country you have lovely Camellia gardens and they are also used for cosmetics like Camellia oil for shampoo.

  19. Good Morning Mariette, How thoughtful of Pieter to rescue these beautiful Camellias before they became blemished. The flowers look perfect displayed in your bowl. They would certainly bring a smile to my face if they were displayed on my table. I have a small Camellia, Pink Perfection, but to be honest, it is quite small and I am wondering if it is too cold for it to grow here in the North of England. We will see, I shall keep persevering. My uncle had a beautiful pink Camellia bush which was six feet tall and it was smothered in flowers in May/June, it was his pride and joy. He planted the bush about 40 years ago and it is still going strong.
Enjoy your beautiful flowers and have a lovely day today.
    Best Wishes

Thank you for your lovely comment and I do hope that your Pink Perfection will feel more at home in your region. Here they always bloom in the winter; which is such a bonus as there is no other blossom at that time.
Wishing you also a lovely new day.

We are so lucky that Camellias in general do very well here in the South.
It has been raining again, typical winter weather and when it gets clear again it will freeze...
We must hang in there for a couple of more months!
