{Picket Fence & White Hibiscus}

One would never tell that only this past December husband Pieter redid our Vinyl Picket Fence by digging out a trench, pouring concrete and putting concrete blocks on top. He had to remove the Picket Fence entirely and even extend it with two more sections. Now there is no tell tale sign that we ever had a huge pine tree that got cut down and having so much digging done. The grass grew very well with almost a daily shower this entire summer. Only the last week or so has been without rain, except for Tuesday. So it looks quite lovely together with the White Hibiscus at the end.
We can't recall any summer as lush as this year's...
Photos taken by husband Pieter, except for the top one. One can tell that he too enjoys our new camera...
There is a lot of pollen for the hummingbirds and the bees to feast on.
Such a lovely green-white setting!
We love these great Gothic Picket Vinyl Fence Panels!
And we are blessed for having this part of the water control project completed before the spring.
With that much rain we have had, we were safe now.
With a view of our new tiled patio in the front of the house... Plants are very happy this summer!
The huge Southern Magnolia is so spread out.
Clouds are visible again on this mid June day; preparing for a late afternoon shower...

    1. Dearest Kay,
No we never had to cut it back and it is standing free, there is 1-½ meter in-between the hibiscus and the first panel. The fence was there years before the hibiscus got planted and the first panel did not have to come out as Pieter did not pour concrete there, only all the other panels. But it is a perfect total.

  10. The hibiscus is a pretty anchor for the fence and both enhance each other. What variety is your hibiscus?

It sure is a pretty anchor and looks very nice there.
What variety...? Just a single white hibiscus, given as a starter from a friend. This one has performed always great and we do have on in the back of the gazebo that grew quite tall, more like a tree! We love those flowers.
We have again lovely summer weather!

  11. Hello! I thought of you last evening as hundreds of emotions flooded my mind. My second born .. Carl, age 52 and developmentally disabled has been diagnosed with diabetes. Carl lives with me .. the perfect housemate. He works at our local Safeway supermarket, walks everywhere (does not drive) and is loved by everyone who meets him. We are on our way back to his physician this morning. I am concerned for his future, whether we/he will manage the disease well ... most likely be prescribed medication this morning. Just needed to hear a positive voice about this turn of events and I knew you would provide it.
    Love,
    Helen

    1. Dearest Helen,
So sorry to read this... On top of everything else dealing with diabetes is not easy. The way I handled it since 2007, is just by Discipline; yes with a capital D. I've cut the sugar out of my diet as much as possible or do substitute it with sugars that have a low glycemic index such as coconut palm sugar that we find at Trader Joe's. Of course all the healthier food is more expensive too! Agave nectar is a great sweetener with a low glycemic index. There are so many things to consider like if we increase its glycemic index (number that determines the rate at which sugar enters the blood) by overcooked potatoes or pasta...
In the future I will address some more of these aspects in several posts. Hope your son's physician will try to minimize the prescription of medication. Always best to handle it in the most natural way, avoiding any stress to the kidneys.
By the way, not drinking any soft drinks is a very important thing. I drink only water and tea and coffee without sugar.
Knowing how you feel, it did overwhelm me at first in 2007. Like your entire routine of cooking needs to be revised. It takes some time and meanwhile there is a lot more on the market for helping us achieve this goal.
      Sending you a big hug!

My Pieter has performed in such a great way, considering his age of 85 now. A lot of young(er) male could learn from him.
That white Hibiscus fits there so perfectly and is quite happy in the lower ditch area where it is more moist.
      Happy weekend to you.
