Hoisting of the Marshall Bell - Embassy of the Netherlands in the United States

Both of us have been very proud of the fact that The Netherlands is one of the few countries that has repaid the Marshall Help, received after WWII

Today was a very special day...

  1. Wonderful to know that the Netherlands took responsibility in this matter, Mariette. Gotta love those nations who take debt seriously.
    Blessings!

    1. Dearest Martha Jane,
Sure feel proud of that historic fact about my birth country!
It is quite a treat to visit in Arlington, VA. You find more info on my Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/375980268899562059/
See the image that I've added there, those bells are made very close to my birth place!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  2. Hello Mariette, I count myself as a campanologist, but unfortunately this video does not play. Even the screen shot you posted does not show the bell--was it cast in the Netherlands? At any rate, good for them for repaying their loan--apparently a rare distinction.

    1. Dearest Jim,
So sorry that in your country you cannot access this properly working video. It is not a screen shot!
Yes, it was cast in the Netherlands, near my hometown in the adjacent Province of North Brabant.

Hoping this was useful for you. An important part of history and as part of the 75th celebration of liberation after WWII.

    3. Hello again, Thank you for making all this information so conveniently available to me, about the Marshall Plan and about the bells. The Marshall Plan seemed an ideal way to administer aid to get countries back on their feet--the pride accompanying their recovery was thus completely earned.

I am very familiar with the Eijsbouts bellfounders. While I learned to play on a Taylor British-made carillon, when I returned to Cleveland the Church of the Covenant was kind enough to let me practice and play on their beautiful Eijsbouts carillon. This is in the University Circle section of Cleveland; in the immediate area are Case-Western Reserve University and many museums and cultural institutions, as well as Severance Hall, the home of the Cleveland Orchestra.
