{Breakfast in Bed with 1940s English Art Deco Sterling Silver Toast Rack}

Who does not like breakfast in bed? So let's prepare a tray for lingering. Too bad that due to the extreme heat and drought we have no roses for filling a vase! First time ever, that we cannot enjoy cut flowers. But let's look what we can find.
How about this? A filled 1940s English Sheffield Art Deco Sterling Silver Toast Rack (available at my Zen Cart powered on line boutique: Mariette's Back to Basics, a heart waffle with raspberries, butter, boiled egg...
In the Dutch version of Margaret Caselton's book about Stylish Settings (Sfeer aan Tafel) the above picture can be found on page 122.
Too bad I could not reproduce the flowers...
And, I also forgot the marmalade and the orange juice!
Does that happen to you as well?
My own hand crocheted tablecloth and place mat. Not the napkin, that's from Neiman Marcus.
China is French Gien in the Rose pattern. I'm still looking for some parts. Does anyone have some 'stray' pieces?
Ramekins are French Pillivuyt and the napkin ring is from Christofle.
So what is an English toast rack doing on this tray with all French items? Except for my flatware which is Dutch Gero Zilmeta Menuet 528. Here you can also see the heart waffle better.
You like this? Romantic enough for you?
This romantic antique lacquered tray was available at Spectrenoir.
Breakfast in Bed seems to be LOVED...
This is what I forgot... Orange juice in a rose frosted glass.
So would you forgive me for not having it on the tray, first time?
Here is the toast rack all by itself on the lacquered tray.
Do you also use a toast rack at home?
EV for Emile Viner (sounds French to me...) from Sheffield with the hallmark crown, lion and an X for the year 1940.
Yes, I've done my homework; look here.
On eBay they're selling its twin, oh no... it's the 'V' so that is from 1938.

Daniel Bexfield Antiques did sell this one above for £ 135.00. Just click the pink hyperlinks.

Sorry Sold out...

  1. Liebe Marietta,

  3. If it costs more the older it is then likely they are trying to make more money. Not everyone does their homework or has the knowledge of such things as you do, that's for sure.
And most folks assume the seller knows what they are talking about without question. Just goes to show that you have to check things out for yourself. :) Breakfast looks delicious! Hope your day is great! Tammy

  5. Dearest Mariette,
That breakfast looks yummy! Of course I am getting hungry just by looking at the picture and given that it's 6:00 am here.

The breakfast is served with such elegant touch. The toast rack is a fascinating item. I am so impressed with your homework--I wouldn't trust anyone but you when it comes to know all about these items, plus many others. You are so acknowledgeable. A true Consultant!

Hope you and Pieter have a wonderful weekend!!

  6. Dear Mariette,
what a fabulous job you did with that breakfast tray. I didn't realized in the first moment that it is not the same with the book picture. That is a beautiful modern china with roses. You always find so great things. I use a toast rack for toast and often for waffles. And they are also pretty for cards and letters on the desk.
    Best greetings, Johanna

  16. I think having breakfast delivered in bed with such beautiful dishes and servings displayed as such with a side bowl of flowers would truly start everyone's day off in the right away.

Fantastic! Everything would taste better too! :)

  17. Your breakfast tray looks beautiful! I love marmalade so I would've remembered it:) I do keep meaning to get some egg cups so I can have, what we grew up calling, 'eggs and soldiers'. My mom would cut the toast in strips so we could dip them in the eggs and she called them soldiers. It was my youngest sons favorite breakfast when he was little!

  18. Hello Mariette

It's breakfast time here in Norway and I have just stumbled onto your page. I wish you could just beam across your tray. Sadly, I have no toast rack and no orange juice, so I'll have to make do with crispbread and coffee.
