Pieter J.C. Vedder was the BEST TEACHER in Bridging the Gap between Research and Grower

Pieter once took this photo in San Francisco and often used it as slide for his classes!
Whatever he took, he always had slides and photos developed from it...

Over the decades there has been none other for being so well able to translate the results of science and research into practical and useful language for the mushroom growers!

So many researchers only loved hearing themselves, and were using too difficult words, that went over the top of the heads of a practical grower.

Our latest book also explains the physics and everything else there is to know, into an understandable and practical way: modern mushroom growing 2020 harvesting available in ANY COUNTRY WORLDWIDE at over 40,000+ booksellers as print on demand.

    1. Dearest Helen,
Thank you very much and Pieter always had the practical implementation in mind; to actually help others make a (better) living.
Same for me, in Germany where I trained hundreds of women/harvesters, they thanked me after my training and told me they earned more, for better quality and with less hours of work and less movements thus less tired... It is very rewarding in the end, after perseverance.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  3. Hello Mariette and Pieter, You two are right about the relationship between research and users. I have helped people apply for National Science grants, and the secret is to come out of the ivory tower, and explain what the research in understandable terms, and what the future or practical benefits will be.

    1. Dearest Jim,
You phrase it very well, coming out of the ivory tower. But for some, it is all they have and with that comes a certain arrogance often that distances themselves from the 'ordinary working' people.

      Abrazos,

That was a beautiful day in SF and it has been for many years our favorite city, each time when we had to go to the Pescadero farm (Campbell's at that time) in Santa Cruz we loved the drive down along the coast!
