I'll Be Darned - I DID IT AGAIN

After a long wait and search... I finally found embroidery floss in the matching color with my legwarmers.
I've hand knitted them from soft baby wool...
On the fold-over in the back, there was a hole...
My search ended at Herrschners, where I found the matching embroidery floss
Did use the full floss as that was about right for matching the baby wool.
ONLY $ 0.40 for one skein  Made from long staple 100% Egyptian cottton, which is recognized as the world's finest. This high-quality mercerized 6-strand divisible floss is dyed in rich colors with a luxurious sheen. A delight to stitch with and perfect for all your heirloom-quality projects.
Yep, I'll Be Darned - I DID IT AGAIN
Out came the antique sock darner and I put it to work.
Using a thick needle for threading the full floss, all 6 strands!
Here is Speckie girl, the naughty feline that made the hole...
Sorry for the poor selfie!
See that tongue...? She really is a naughty one! See post below about her...
But Speckie girl promised to NOT DO THAT AGAIN!
My Mom would have done a far neater job... but I'm glad I closed it up in a safe way.
Done and taken outside for the best color effect.
Happy that those damaged stitches no longer can run further!

  1. Hello Mariette, Amazing that you found the matching thread for that specialized color. I was surprised when you said that you knitted that originally--the work is so fine and even. I have a horror of even making the tiniest stitch with a needle and thread, so when I get a hole either I ignore it and the garment gets ruined, or I put it in a special to-be-repaired pile where it will sit forever. Although I can attach a button or make a few stitches if direly necessary, I do it badly--it always looks like the work of Dr. Frankenstein. Although we can't all reach your skill level, everyone, male and female, should be taught to make a few repairs with a needle, and not to procrastinate with such tasks.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Well, I'm fortunate for having been taught how to knit and crochet by my Mom and at school in first grade.
This darning I only 'learned' by watching Mom do it... never actually got taught doing it neatly!
You are so right in being taught to do some minor mending jobs. We went to Florida on vacation with the adopted daughter of Pieter's eldest brother and she needed to mend her bathing suit. Turned out that the exchange student from Rotaract whom we also let join us, had to rescue her with his needle, thread and skill!
Our German 'son' also was very good at it as his Mom had no daughters, she taught her two boys and the eldest amazed me!
The procrastination factor is often another obstacle...
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  2. Dearest Mariette,
What a lovely color and how fortunate that you could find a match.
I will have to look up Herrschners. So many flosses fade, I stopped making my kitty collars.
    Have a lovely Sunday.............*s*

Yes, I suddenly thought about looking up Herrschners and am glad I did. Had not ordered anything from them for decades! You no doubt will find anything at their website.
      Hugs,

  3. You are really clever to knit and darn. I am amazed how some people can do that. Often without looking. They talk or watch TV and their hands are working independently without looking. I guess knitting is going out of fashion these days.

    God bless.

    1. Dearest Victor,
Well, as stated above, I was fortunate for having been taught this early on.
Nowadays it is no longer being taught at schools and I'm afraid that most teachers don't know themselves how to.
It always has been such an excellent motor skill that helps you in many ways for several jobs.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. Nunca he tejido nada jerseys, ni bufandas.

      Abrazos,
      Mariette

Thank you, I tried my best and as I wrote, my Mom would have done that to perfection!
Yes, we sure lost our naughty girl and yesterday when I got a sweater and shoes out of the hallway closet I thought of her—did not have to put that hook on to prevent her from opening the bi–fold doors.
      Hugs,
      Mariette
