YES we have had SNOW here in the Heart of Georgia!
Just want to share with you two memories of a WHITE world here in the Heart of Georgia.
It does happen once in a while...
This was on January 7 in 1988 and I was home by myself and captured this sight.
Pieter had left on January 5 for Michigan and got stuck in Chicago on January 7 as they could not fly in to Atlanta as the airport was iced over...
On January 8, Pieter called me from Atlanta around noon where he finally had landed.
Now the painstakingly slow journey home via Interstate 75 as it took him 4 hours!
Here in the South they have NO equipment for clearing snow...

Mariette, when Nel lived in Georgia, they got snow one year. It was a light snow, but she was surprised and excited to see it in her neighborhood. It doesn't happen that often, but you're right, every once in awhile, they will get snow there. Thanks for the little videos. I enjoyed them. Here, in the mountains, we get snow every Winter, and the workers are wonderful clearing the roads and making it a safe place to drive. Have a pleasant weekend, dear Mariette.
Dearest Sheri, Yes, once in a while we get that surprise here and your daughter Nel got to experience that too. You certainly are well equipped for it and the people are familiar with it. Here they freak out when having to drive through snow. Hugs, Mariette
Can remember the excitement as kids in the south when we'd get flurries or even just a light dusting of snow. I bet those little birdies wondered what the heck that white stuff was. I'm not a fan of cold weather so definitely would want the snow to go as quickly as it came. :)
Dearest Tammy, Just like you, we both are more in our element in the warm weather and we don't miss the snow from our childhood and later years. Living in Pennsylvania for one winter also was enough. One indeed wonders what garden critters might think of the white stuff... Hugs, Mariette
It's particularly challenging when there's snow/ice in areas that aren't equipped to deal with it. (It's challenging enough when you live in an area that does get snow and has the equipment!)
Dearest Kim, Oh, it was very challenging for Pieter to come home due to not being equipped at the airport and not having managed to clear the Interstate. Glad that is past us! If it snows now, we just can opt to stay home... Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Anne, In 1988 we did not have a greenhouse yet and we probably had plants brought inside the garage and such. In the garden, nothing got damaged. Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Victor, Well, you enjoy the white snow covering—we both don't miss it. Guess it would be dangerous for waking on frozen snow and such, we both don't need to break our hip! Hugs, Mariette
Felizmente tudo deu certo.
Dearest Titti, Yes, it is quite a sight when all is covered with snow! Today is not sunny here either and only 18°C and 3°C at night... Wishing you and yours also the very best for 2023! Hugs, Mariette
It must be nice to have snow, but on the other hand it's also hard to make a normal life. I've never lived in the snow. I only saw it snow in Serra da Estrela, one of the few places where it snows in Portugal. xoxo Coisas de Feltro
Dearest Christina, Yes, it is a very special and rare look to see snow. So east of Coimbra, in the mountains you can see snow in Portugal... Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Veronica, Yes, it sure is delightful. We never forget the reaction of our foster daughter and her then fiancée when they saw our frosted lawn—they had to touch it! Hugs, Mariette

Hi Mariette! Did your plants freeze then?

It is so enjoyable to see everything covered with show. We've had snow for a couple of days here. Now it is all wet and damp.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.

Es bonito ver nevar y sobre todo las imágenes que se captan de los paisajes nevados.
ReplyDeleteBesos.

I sure hope we see snow here before the winter is over!
ReplyDeleteDearest Martha Jane,
DeleteBoth of us are not looking forward to any snow... We prefer the sunshine and mild weather!

Lovely with all that snow! Here we have rain and the weather is sooo dull today. A rainy Sunday...
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for a happy & healthy 2023!

It's very surprising some of the places that get snow (but only rarely). It's very rare for us to get snow at our desert house, but it has happened!
ReplyDeleteDearest Peter,
DeleteYes, however rare—it does happen once in a while!
Hugs,
Mariette
