{Did I loose my strength?... Like in Samson and Delilah?}

Often I wonder if I might have lost my strength when I had my LONG braid cut off at once... You certainly know the biblical story of Samson and Delilah, where she cut off his long hair, which made him loose his strength. After having worked and lived in Indonesia I wanted to have short hair and get rid of the 'weight' of that long braid. For hygiene reasons I did wear it like that, pulling all hair back and tied together. But the weight of such a long braid is not really that much as hair is very light. It was more the idea.
Here she is... in a shadow box framed on French graduating ombré silk velvet from Britex Fabrics in San Francisco. The framing was done by Irok Gallery as usual.
Thick braid...
Quite a length!
Peet Kleeven from Happy Hair chopped it off like that...
Off came my long hair and gone was my strength...?
Irok Gallery did a remarkable job with the shadow box!
I've made a blouse from the remaining French ombré silk as I had to buy it by the panel.
My Dad did snip off one of my hair locks when I was 3 months of age... My color did not change since than.
Do you have some baby locks saved? Or a braid?
Saving for that braid...
Getting there slowly. This is all in Indonesia. Wearing here a Kashmir dress that a friend did bring me from India.
Long Kashmir dress, hand embroidered in a royal blue.
Only during weekends I could let my hair down...
Hair reaching my hips...
This is it...
Minus braid... It sure felt light!
This is in Horst at my parents' in their sun-room.
So do you believe that I might have lost my strength too?

  1. Hi dearest Mariette, beg your pardon for having
neglected your lovely blog but I've been quite
busy lately. I guess you could imagine my delight
in reading and watching your intriguing personal-life
post and I can say for sure you haven't lost your
strength nor your beauty at all looking at ease
in all of your pics, regardless of length and style.
Have a lovely, light-hearted July Sunday!

That is quite an impressive braid and it must have taken a lot of courage to let it go. I believe that "energy" gets locked inside the hair and it can therefore sometimes be enormously relieving getting a haircut (getting rid of whatever "energy" might have been in there). Sometimes I feel it's just like leaving behind one era and starting afresh. A few years ago I had a short haircut and it's now grown very long again - I have this incredibble urge to have a real short boyish haircat but can't quite seem to muster the courage. You shorter hairdo looked gorgeous on you - it really becomes your face!! And the Kashmir dress in stunning.

Much love and have a lovely Sunday,
    from Joan

  5. Liebe Mariette,

so ähnlich habe ich es auch erlebt.
    Mein Haar ist allerdings weniger
    gelockt als deins.

    Das waren schöne Eindrücke.

    Alles Liebe

  6. Oh, Dearest Mariette.
As being a Japanese not having learned Christianity, I need to check about the story of "Samson and Delilah". Sounds interesting.I don't think any Japanese connect the length of the onen's hair and the strength or energy. As I am SO small, I've never had long hair. Haha, lonf for it.
Anyways, looks PRETTY BECOMING to you♡♡♡

  7. I think you are stronger for cutting it! :) MY daughter did that a few years ago and then donated it to locks of love. She really wants to do it again now that she knows she can do something for such a good cause!

  8. Liebe Mariette,
    Irmi

  10. Strength comes from within. You will always have it!

I loved your braid. I love your hair shot. I just love you!

My daughter had long, long hair and I saved her first snip and that of my son. Every time I cut her hair we saved it. I sill have all the pieces...so many. Someday I will give them all to her. It's so soft and beautiful.

    Sweet post~xoRebecca

  11. Hi Mariette, we are back from Nepal! What an experience!

I have kept a snip of hair from the boys first haircuts ... but couldn't even tell you where it is at the moment. :/ Sure wish I could be as organized as you.

Hope you are having a great weekend. Tammy

  12. I think you have to be strong to cut such long length of hair! I have long hair too but I'm scared to cut off!

  13. Your hair is gorgeous long and short! ... how wonderful that the clour has stayed .. I love how you have cared forthe braid and display it. My hair started out blonde and sadly has darken over the years.

I think stength is found in so many different facets of our lives. You have a strength deep within you my friend that will never be lost .. you believe, have faith and care for others. Many blessings to you my sweet friend, xo HHL

  14. Liebe Mariette,
was für wundervolles Haar du hast.
    Johanna

  15. Dear Mariette,
Beautiful hair! Your long braid reminds me my mother's long hair, so lovely. I have kept a snip of hair from my two children first haircuts, and I have a lock of my hair that my mother saved for me.
    Have a blessed week!

  16. Your hair is beautiful long or short. You look much livelier with short hair. You have such a sweet spunky look and vibrant smile with the short hair.
Is the curl natural. My three children and five grandsons have very curly hair. I just love it.
    Hugs, Ginger:)
PS You look younger with short hair.

  18. Liebe Mariette,
    Lilo

  19. Dear Mariette,

You are so beautiful and your lovely long hair is so gorgeous. It must have been very hard to cut it off, but I do understand how free and cool it would be especially in summer.
You looks wonderful with it short also and loved seeing your photos over the years.

    Hugs
    Carolyn

  22. You are and were dear Mariette, such a pretty girl and your hair is gorgeous! I have a grand with exact same hair as yours, she startedvery blond, so she was called goldy locks and now it's honey blond and with lots of curls and very long. I love how you framed it, I will show this to my daughter to rell Cayetana when she grows up. You look so pretty with your shorter style too! You look like a model. Big hugs,

    http://measvintage.blogspot.de/2015/01/haarseife.html

    Sara
