Silver Clock and Oak Wall Clock repaired by Pieter

From Mom & Dad's Estate in The Netherlands, also came home a silver clock that we once gifted Mom.
It was also a double photo frame...
Here it is — three parts
Sorry for the glare... Placed it on our Corian window sill in the kitchen near the Stephanotis Floribunda.
From the INTERNATIONAL SILVER COMPANY.
This did come home with me on June 17, 2022 when I took my final trip home from Limburg...
More items that were inside my suitcase: Mom & Dad's Trio of Crucifix with Corpus and Plaques with Red Copper Relief Statues ←click link
A very elegant set—except the clock had stopped working...
A better view—without glare...
Photo is from Pieter and me on September 5, 2002
Pieter wearing his Burberry tuxedo and I my silk Escada rose gown and shoes with Majorica pearls.
Pieter always has been an excellent photographer!
In our office, our oak Meubelfabriek Oisterwijk clock also had stopped working...
But my Pieter did repair both of them!
Wrote him a thank–you letter on October 14 of 2022
English translation follows below...
Dublin, October 14, 2022

Dearest Pieter,

My rock–my intellectual–hardworking, down–to earth 'better half'!
We first saw each other 53 years ago. An inexplicable sympathy that grew into a pure—real love.
More than that: a fusion of two souls.
With the same feelings and drive – never lazy or too tired to do anything.
Committing yourself to many and only thinking of yourself at the end... And that even reluctantly!
A deep faith and with the help of God's blessing, has yielded us so many years.
Also, undoubtedly many souls of loved ones who have accompanied us on our path together.
You asked so little for yourself. Often even pro bono for so many.
We are convinced that God will one day settle it! Our behavior and that of those who scarred your heart. We can only pray and ask: Father, forgive them—they don't know what they are doing—just as Jesus said in all his sufferings.
You are still good to all the birds and animals on our estate. You feed and protect them.
Even more intimate with our cats—they don't hang onto you so much for nothing. Animals feel how you really are and love you unconditionally. How proud I am of you—as I walk through the garden, where your hard work is visible everywhere. And no less in the house—what you've done yourself!!!
There is no second Pieter.
Even the little oak clock that you recently managed to repair. And the silver clock! No, such an intelligent person, who still reads so much, is immortal—if it weren't for the body's inaction.
Thank goodness we captured your intellect in our book in 2020—for others especially. I was also able to highlight some things about our life together. You like to read it on your iPadPro and enjoy it. Makes me feel good and especially because I know there was never time for it before. Always doing a mega job or often driving someone else around and proudly showing our new homeland.
All those memories will remain—that is my anchor when you leave me behind to receive the final reward for your soul. I know you'll still be with me until I get to follow too.

Thank you for so much real love and see you later!

FORUM at Mushroom Conference — Last Surviving Pioneers

Pieter has often been in an Open Forum...
Like here below in Scottsdale, Arizona during the Spawn Mate Symposium
Open Forum moderated by Don Betterley.
Shown left to right: Barry Holtz, Pieter Vedder, Paul Wuest, Hans Tschierpe, Lee Schisler and Jim Sinden.
Spawn Mate Scottsdale Symposium Program
11:00 AM OPEN FORUM
followed by the above mentioned names...
After the FORUM we had Reception and Dinner Dance in the Crystal Ballroom...
Pieter looking spiff in his Burberry tuxedo...
Wearing with it, his silk paisley bow tie and cummerbund.
For some mysterious reason, that same bow tie got lost in Maastricht during the ISMS Conference in the year 2000...
You should have seen us—almost stripping the entire room—in vain!

Happy me—always after my Pieter's excellent performance — and now a relaxing evening!
Wearing my batik skirt from Indonesia and linen lace blouse.
~
Fond memories of all the FORUM members and that over many years!
BUT as of today, only two of those pioneers are still alive and that is Barry Holtz and my Pieter J.C. Vedder.

Sadly...

Jim Sinden passed away on December 20, 1994—born November 12, 1902
Sadly Paul Wuest passed away on September 05, 2006—born February 26, 1937
Hans Tschierpe passed away on April 15, 2009—born 1930
Lee Schisler passed away on October 27, 2021—born 1928
In our newest publication: modern mushroom growing 2020 harvesting ←click link
we did mention on page 415 — SINDEN, SCHISLER...

May all of their names never be forgotten by the mushroom industry!

1980 MGA Conference Reception in Royal Albert Hall, London

As always, the British handled such MGA Conferences very formal.
Reception at the Royal Albert Hall in London with music by Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
Ps
Royal Albert Hall, London - England
Especially in London, formalities and protocol are being observed!
A formal welcome by the Mayor of London and husband Pieter recalls that he only had his summer business suit... no formal wear! But he engaged in a nice conversation with the mayor's wife.
Later I got him a Burberry Tuxedo...
The performance by Academy of St Martin in the Fields was quite an experience!
Above photo gives just an idea about Royal Albert Hall Venue and Seating Plan View.
Husband Pieter sure has been blessed for being at a performance led by Sir Neville Marriner who passed away a couple of years ago at the age of 92.
Interesting that from the MGA Conference (Mushroom Growers Association of the UK) being held at Royal Albert Hall, there remained some 'mushrooms' as part of the Acoustic Mushrooms and the  Royal Albert Hall Echo, 1996 click the hyperlink.
Husband Pieter did his Lecture Tour ahead of this event, with his long time friend Peter Stanley Evans Jr.
It was also in London where Peter Stanley-Evans Sr. together with his wife, presented Pieter the beautiful Tanner Krolle Attaché. They both came to Pieter's hotel, toting a large gift box and presented him with this royal gift from Harrods, London. With Pieter's initials in gold embossed under the handle.
Also with Peter Stanley-Evans Jr. Pieter did go to the Mason Chartreuse company store where he bought several cups and saucers.
Sadly they stayed behind in Horst, The Netherlands as Pieter left the house and all things in it, to his ex-wife when he went with me to the USA to start anew.
But we have them back, part as a gift from another English friend for hosting one of his people here at the Campbell Mushroom plant and we found Mandalay Chartreuse by Mason's at Replacements Ltd.

A very memorable MGA Conference!

From Hong Kong to Sydney, Australia

On August 27 of 1993, we left Hong Kong at 21:00 on Qantas Airlines and in 8 hours and 15 minutes we arrived in Sydney with a time difference of 2 hours.
We landed at 8:30 and went by shuttle to the Hilton Sydney on 488 George Street.
We walked to the beautiful Queen Victoria Building on 455 George Street and explored some of its 200 shops.
That yielded a cute WOMBAT and a koala...
Yes, Womby still lives with us!
QVB as the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney is called. Just click the link to learn more about this gem!
Refreshing to walk from the Hilton Sydney to the QVB, it was raining but it was not too cold.
This cute Australian Koala resides on the window ledge in our guest bedroom.
The night flight on Qantas for those 7,300 km went well.
Dinner - Sleeping - Breakfast was the sequence here...
Already in April, husband Pieter got listed as a speaker for the AMGA/ISMS
On Sunday, August 29, the lectures started in the Sydney Convention Centre - Darling Harbour
Sadly I learned that this building has been demolished after 25 years and is no longer...

AMGA AUSTRALIAN MUSHROOM GROWERS' ASSOCIATION
Compost Workshop and Seminar - Sydney
We traveled by MONORAIL
Well, from blogger friend Sami, from the blog: COLOURFULWORLD in a reply comment to me, I learned that the MONORAIL is no more.
So it got taken out on June 30, 2013...
We rode it again on Monday August 30 as the lectures started at 8:30 and Pieter's turn was at 9:00.
By 17:00 we walked back to the hotel and had dinner at 19:15 with Chris and Bob Dumbreck, Marion Lawson and John Rodwell from California at the Royal Automobile Club of Australia.
Elegant dining and very British!
After dinner, we all did walk up to the Opera House for a fantastic view.
On Tuesday, August 31, we went by bus at 6:00 already to the markets; FLOWERS & VEGGIES with plenty of fresh MUSHROOMS as well.
After breakfast, coming back by bus to the Hilton hotel, we were crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
In front of us a German couple had fallen asleep... suddenly she woke up, nudging her husband and scolding him for NOT video taping the spectacular view! Priceless.

In the evening we had a standing reception at 20:00 in the Convention Centre.
On Wednesday September 1, we started again at 8:00 and Pieter did a summary of this workshop and seminar and that went very well; great applaus from the audience.
On Thursday September 2, we had one last day of lectures.
Rounded off with a formal Banquet at the Convention Center.
Pieter got to wear his Burberry tuxedo for the 2nd time within ONE week!

We had a relaxed morning and flew from Sydney to Melbourne where cousin Liz picked us up at the airport by 14:55... stay tuned!

Thanks for your visit and comment.

HONG KONG 1st International Conference on Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products

Before I will continue about our next trip to Australia, we have to do this en route Hong Kong Conference from 23-16 August, 1993.
Husband Pieter had already been to Hong Kong, but it was my FIRST trip ever.
This was also the view one gets when landing in Hong Kong, a beautiful city!
Above picture was on the post card that I bought for my Mom, as I always did from everywhere we traveled.
We travelled very well because we had the luxury of getting an upgrade to Business Class on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, in seats 77 A+B on the upper deck. We both slept very well on our way from Atlanta to Amsterdam.
Next day we spent at the Van Gogh Business Class lounge in Amsterdam where we took a shower, posted lots of cards and shopped till we continued to Hong Kong at 21:30 and again we both slept a lot! Arrival in Hong Kong at 15:50
Well over 350 participants from more than 40 countries...
Of those 350 participants I was one...!
We stayed at the Royal Park Hotel Shatin, Hong Kong
Indeed, Royal Park Hotel Grand Entrance...
Afer a shower at the Royal Park Hotel, we went with our host, Fred Giorgi, to a delicious Italian restaurant: Cucina!
Cucina, Marco Polo Hotel, Harbour City in Hong Kong with spectacular view!
Photo is from The Yum List
All this, followed by a very good night sleep...
Early morning photo from our room at Royal Park Hotel... lots of glare due to the early sun into the window.
You are actually looking here at Shatin Central Park just click link .
We left at 8:00 o'clock by bus to the Chinese University of Hong Kong for the opening of the conference.
After the opening at the University, we went back to our hotel for lunch and next to the Town Hall for  the lectures.
The first day got rounded off by a Reception with Hors d'oeuvres, at the Double Haven, 4/F Shatin Clubhouse of the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Husband Pieter and I at this reception...
Back at our hotel by 21:30
On Tuesday, August 12, we went again to the Town Hall after breakfast and after lunch continued to attend lectures.
For dinner we were included by Giorgio Foods as their guest.
I've scribbled some shop info to the left for Wednesday afternoon.
Now the Omni Hotel is called Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel...
Here husband Pieter and I, having a conversation with other guests, after dinner.
Fond memories of our blissful relationship.
On Wednesday, August 24 we did go to the lectures in the morning but went by taxi to down-town at Star House in Kowloon, for shopping. That yielded some beautiful silks, you find two links about those silk garments below this post.

Very helpful for having the street names written in Chinese, for the taxi driver!

Another day full of lectures and a lot of humor! We all laughed so hard with one gentleman from Thailand; he was hilarious in his presentation and no doubt captivated full attention from the audience.
In the evening on Thursday August 26, the Conference got rounded off by a regal 10-course dinner at Riverside Ballroom of the Regal Riverside Hotel
Whole Barbecued Suckling Pig
Braised Twin Vegetables with Ham
Sauteed Shrimp with Assorted Vegetables
Braised Superior Shark's Fin Soup with Shredded Chicken
Steamed Fresh Gurnard
Braised Sliced Abalone with Mushrooms and Vegetables
Double-Boiled Black Mushroom Soup with Whelk and Tien Tsin Vegetables
Deep-fried Crispy Chicken
Fried Rice with Seafood in Portuguese Sauce
Shrimp Dumplings and Noodles in Supreme Soup
Chilled Pudding in Seasonal Fruit
Chinese Petits Fours
Liquid Refreshments Generously Provided by Giorgio Foods, Inc.
Fond memories of a very happy time with husband Pieter in Hong Kong at this regal Banquet.
Love the silver spoon and chopstick rest!
Different from the usual Silver Knife Rest... 😏
Perfect Conference ending!
Pieter looking dashing in his Burberry tuxedo with silk velvet bow tie and cummerbund.
Next day we had a very lazy morning and we flew on Qantas Airlines at 21:00 to Sydney, Australia in  about 8 hours and 15 minutes = 7,300 km and a 2 hour time difference.

Stay tuned for the next segment...

Thanks for your visit and comment!
