We had a fabulous bike ride together on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Not easy for finding a couple of days without rain or strong winds.
Just to show you how lucky we got with our selection for being there!
Blue sky and no wind!
This is at the Salty Dog Cafe, South Beach Marina, where we went for a bite, outside on the terrace.
It is quite a drive to this paradise so we did book a 2-night stay at Hyatt Place in Savannah.
From there it is easy to drive to Sea Pines Resort.
Getting a day pass for our car and 2 bikes!
South Carolina has a lovely coast with several islands and Hilton Head does have this private and gated resort area, hence the day pass.
We parked in Harbour Town and started our bike ride from there.
There used to be a restaurant in the lower section of the Lighthouse here at Harbour Town.
Even my Mom & Dad had lunch there with us and several dear friends... Fond memories.
Have not seen what it is now as it was under construction this time.
Close to the Lighthouse is the Broad Creek Marina
Also at Broad Creek Marina, such a lovely area!
All along the bike trail you find benches and it is convenient for taking a break and eating a snack, a mandarin and some chocolate...
Yep, peeling and orange and sharing a Toblerone...
The light is very harsh here!
But such a lovely ride and quiet, in nature with wildlife all around.
Also here we will go back again.
We were very lucky weather wise.
Only 2 days later there was Gale Warning and strong winds - not good for biking!
Thank you for your visit and comment!
Hello Mariette, I have known a number of people who vacation at Hilton Head, and I can see why with so many attractions. I am glad that you and Pieter caught some beautiful weather there for bicycling.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteIt is really a great natural environment and you can also watch the dolphins but we were only there to ride our bike through nature's trail. The weather was absolutely the best. Such a great distraction from all the medical things going on for Pieter at that time.
We've been eyeing the weather for quite some time now but there is too much risk for rain!
Hugs,
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,
ReplyDeletedein schöner Post erfreut mein Herz.
Sonnige Grüße
Elisabeth
Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteEs freut mich immer zu lesen das du hier warst!
Liebe Grüße,
Mariette
dearest Mariette
ReplyDeleteThank you for yiyo sharing. Cycling is different from walking. We don't see the same thing.
Oh, you naughty girl! Toblerone!!!!!!
You have a good day Mariette
Hugs
Dearest Nathalie,
DeleteYes, cycling is quite different from walking and you can cover a lot more distance in doing so.
Pieter had a knee problem and the orthopedic surgeon suggest he only cycles as that does not put any pressure on the knee, even removes some fluids. He's been feeling great doing so.
YES, I do have a very high metabolism and need something to feed on...
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette - it is good to see that you are so active and fit after the problems you experienced earlier in the year. You look as if you have made a remarkable recovery - well done.
ReplyDeleteDearest Rosemary,
DeleteWell, this is from October 27... as is shown in two pictures above. But I'm at the very same level frankly and am doing great. IF only the weather would allow us to go back for a couple of days to make such trips again. It is such a wet monsoon here this entire summer.
Hugs,
Mariette
Great trail and wonderful memories, dearest Mariette!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Have a lovely week, sending Love and hugs, Claudia xoxo
Dearest Claudia,
DeleteIt is an absolutely great trail and we have the fondest memories of this October ride!
Hugs,
Mariette
Look at the two of you, so fit and trim!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to vacation in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. A good friend of mine went every year with 2 or 3 married families, but I was a single and that trip was their thing to spend as a family trip, including children. So although my friend was close close friend, I would not have been welcome. So I'll see what the future holds for me. I also hope to visit Charleston, SC, as well as, Savannah and Atlanta, Gerogia and New Orleans, LA. I'll have to do a deep South trip!
Thanks for sharing your ride, Mariette.
Dearest Debbie,
DeleteOh, once having been here at Hilton Head, you fall in love and Charleston is a lovely city with a lot of history, as is Savannah and Atlanta. So that means you will be passing by one day on your way to New Orleans?
The deep South IS charming!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi Mariette! Beautiful place for cycling. Have a nice new day;-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, this is the best for cycling in nature and with great temperatures close to the Ocean.
Hugs,
Mariette
Used to spend time in Hilton Head when children were young. Looks like you had some beautiful weather for yourselves
ReplyDeleteYou two are so fit. The last time I rode a bike was on Tangier Island, about 10 years ago. I got off balance by not paying attention and fell into some ladies yard in her rocks near the flower garden. I felt like an idiot. I got up right away and kept going. Great exercise it is.
I love oranges and chocolate. Chocolate cake with orange zest is so good too. I do need a toblerone now and will go well with my mandarins I just purchased.
Hugs to you,
Betsy
Leuk geschreven weer. Hartelijke groet uit heet Nederland
DeleteDearest Betsy,
DeleteOh my Lord, falling with your bike is awful. No, we have biked all our lives except on different bikes as it gets harder and harder to push the pedals in our 'hot' and humid climate and also because of the hills. There hardly is a flat surface where we live. We love the coast so much because of its flat surface and also the Riverwalk in Columbus but both are a good 2 hours driving distance away. Not something you just do and go... Weather has to be stable too! And it is so very wet here...
Hope you will try biking again!
Yeah, mandarins or oranges go perfect with chocolate and for me the dark is favorite. I'm a favorite zester too, use my Rösle zester a lot!
Hugs,
Mariette
Beste Ingrid,
Liefs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful place to go cycling and glad that you and Pieter were able to enjoy taking in the beautiful scenery.
Thanks for sharing .
Hope all is well with you dear friend and have a happy weekend.
Hugs
Carolyn
Dearest Carolyn,
DeleteThanks for stopping by and yes, that wonderful place we would love to go back to but the frequent and heavy rains this summer have not made it possible yet...
We are doing well!
Hugs,
Mariette
What a stunning blue sky! You were very lucky with weather indeed, especially as it’s been so rainy recently. Looks like you had a great bike ride. I love the view of ocean at Broad Creek Marina. Never been to Hilton Head Islands but it’s one of the places I’d like to visit :-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteOh we were so very lucky those two days! We would love to book another stay at the Hyatt Place for riding our bikes but with the present weather forecast it is nearly impossible.
You sure would LOVE Hilton Head. My French Canadian friend who used to go play tennis there, did introduce me to this resort and she too did ride the bike. She always said, it feels so good in the heat of summer to be near the ocean with its breeze. We always wanted to do that but it is not easy for having perfect weather.
Hugs,
Mariette
Belo passeio. Uma aventura de Bike por esses lugares lindos deve ser maravilhoso.
ReplyDeleteAmei passear com vocês.
Abraços.
