Christmas Once again...
So let me show you our hand carved wooden nativity scene with angels from South Tyrol, Italy. The birth of Jesus is the reason for the season... Our Saviour, who came into this world because of LOVE.
The wood carving is so meticulously done by the Italian craftsmen!
Love the angel holding a HEART; the universal symbol of Love...
At present we do have some Paperwhites blooming again.
As well as fragrant Chimonanthus praecox (Calycanthus p.) (C. fragrans) which you see in the center of this Mandalay Chartreuse vase by Mason, together with Ilex decidua 'Finches Golden' a yellow berried Ilex.
Last year we only had the yellow Ilex (holly berries) but this year there are plenty of red Ilex.

Your Nativity is very beautiful indeed, and I love the little angels too. Yes, I have several Nativity scenes, but the most special is one inherited from my mother. The scene has a wooden stable, and painted plaster figures, including shepherds, animals, and Three Kings. The grandchildren have taken quite an interest in it this year.

DeleteThank you and yes, we had to start all over in many ways by immigrating to the USA.
Don't know where the very special nativity from Mom and Dad ended up... As children we were mesmerized by all the animals, shepherds and then the three wise men added in the end.
Dad took us to the woods to his special spot for gathering the moss that he used as bedding for the entire nativity.
It got displayed perfectly on a special cupboard with glass doors at the top and a kind of a buffet in–between. There was an angel hanging down...
Happy to read that the grandchildren have taken quite an interest in it!

Your Nativity is beautiful, and how special that it is from Italy. I like the little angel with the heart. They were selling items a few years ago at my church, and my friend bought me a Mary statue that was from Bethlehem. I love it so. Some of the items being sold were from Bethlehem and Jerusalem, and I thought that was so special.

You might not know but we lived and worked for almost one year in northern Italy in the Venice are so we have been passing through that artisan region so many times.
Oh, our Catholic Church has those sales as well but since we got all our statues already from Europe we never purchased any.
