Dutch Blogger Friend Willy from De tante van Tjorven (just click link) has solved the Blogger bug, that has affected many of us... Tjorven's aunt if using the English translator on her side bar a little down.
For Having Thumbnail showing up again on our Blog List on the Side Line:
The trick is that the 1st photo in your blog ought to be inserted under ORIGINAL SIZE!
BUT first you also have to size it down to only 640 pixel by 480 pixel...
It WORKS thanks to this very clever blogger friend!!!

The new blogger has turned a lot of things upside down! I find that when I'm in editing mode the font size constantly changes on its own. Glad someone has answers for some of these new blogger problems :)

Also for your, often very captivating images it makes a huge difference if them are visible again!

Hello Mariette, Thank Willy for figuring this out, and thank you for finding and translating it. I have a test blog, so I can experiment a little to get it working.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have had the problem with new blogger that I cannot choose which image shows up as the thumbnail. With old Blogger there was a way to insert some code, but it just does not work anymore. When I test Willy's solution, I will add this into the mix!

WHY does Blogger constantly change?! Guess they lost a lot of bloggers because of it...

Hello again, You are right about Blogger. What doesn't make sense is that sometimes in order to add new features, they have to drag us into the future kicking and screaming. But with new Blogger, I don't see a single improvement, just more confusing ways of doing the same functions, and a lot of them broken! --Jim

Dear Mariette - my images normally do appear on sidebars, however, I didn't know why other bloggers images were not. I mainly do use 'original size' but I do not use the smaller pixel size that you mention - mine are mostly 800x800, so it appears that you only need to use 'original size' for the first image - the pixels used are irrelevant.

DeleteIn-between, your blog did also NOT show any image, as well as with the reveal of your quiz; your last one. You must have altered it as now it is there...
The pixels do make a difference for making it fit on your blog's layout.

Dear Mariette - Fortunately I do not have a problem placing images that are 800x800 on my blog layout. You are right sometimes I have not used the original size, but now that I know that is is required for the first image I shall do so.

DeleteIt is NOT about having problems placing any size image on your blog, but for the new Blogger requirement to have a 'VISIBLE' thumbnail showing on people's Blog List, usually shown on the side bar, some have it way below. Others only show their own images of whatever. That's personal freedom of course.

I noticed that only my signature was showing up in sidebars when it used to be the first photo that was in a post. Of course, with all the changes, blogger has messed things up as usual. I'm not a fan of the way things work now. Sure wish they'd leave well enough alone. Thanks for the tip.

Like Rosemary, I usually use 800 X 800 (or an approximation) for the photos I post and - not to sound ugly - I wouldn't really want to make every first photo on my posts small just to have it show on people's blog lists, especially as those thumbnails are still so small they really aren't easy to view. I don't run a blog list down the right side of my own blog because I prefer to use the space to put up larger thumbnails which link to posts of places I have traveled to - that's a quick way for me to open up old posts I may wish to refer to also. ALL blogs I follow come into my Reader List anyway so I catch up with them there daily.
ReplyDeleteMariette, New Blogger has a lot of new issues but most eventually seem to work out. I would like to just tell your reader Sami that she is correct in that the font size often changes when in editing mode (though you say yours doesn't!). Sami - when that happens you need to hilite and edit the text to the correct size from the FONT dropdown, then WAIT, you MUST wait) until the spinning circle in the little 'cloud with a check mark' above on the right next to PREVIEW stops spinning and the check mark shows again. Then you can continue and you should find your type the correct size. It happens very often to me and is a pain, and I don't know why Blogger hasn't corrected this feature yet.

No, my font size never ever has changed so maybe it is related to Apple?
