Pieter Picking up his Campbell Colleagues and showing them TULIPS in The Netherlands

We had been in The Netherlands since April 21, 1984. After a business trip to Switzerland and also to Ireland, on May 6, Pieter drove back in our rental car to the Schiphol/Amsterdam airport.
Picking up his Campbell Soup colleagues and treating them on the way south to Limburg by stopping by some real tulip fields.
These tulips are NOT grown for their flowers but for the BULBS only!
got this info from 'bollenstreek.nl'
Quite a sight these rows of tulip by color!
Pieter's Campbell Soup colleagues were quite impressed and had to capture this sight...
Pieter in return captured them.
That was a perfect welcome to The Netherlands!

    1. Dearest Claudia,
They sure are quite a sight but it is all about the bulbs they grow!

  3. Tulips are such lovely flowers. Mine are beginning to flower but it is still very cold here.

    God bless.

    1. Dearest Victor,
Yes, we both tried to grow the double flowering ones but the voles eat the bulbs... none left 😒
Enjoy yours and your climate is a lot more favorable for growing tulips than ours.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  5. It must have been so amazing to see those tulip fields in person! There is a tulip field that Dad and his wife have visited a few times, and I'm always awed by the pics he sends me!

    1. Dearest Kim,
Yes, it is amazing, just like admiring the huge fields with blooming roses near my birth place. Canada does have lots of bulb growers so I bet you've seen stunning pictures!

  6. Hello Mariette, I can see why the flowing tulip fields create such an attraction. De-heading the tulips for superior bulbs makes a lot of sense. Often in horticulture people cut off flowering or fruiting parts so the the plant will put its energy into new vegetative growth. Likewise, people with fruit trees will often sacrifice many of the blossoms or small fruits so that the remaining ones will get more nutrition and grow larger and better, and the thinning can even admit more air and sunlight for additional benefits.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Yes, those bright colored fields sure attract people's eye!
Believe it or not, even in mushroom business we do pruning, to stimulate the growth and development of the main break and at the end we also remove all remaining, for advancing the next breaks. That is a logic handling in anything that grows.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  7. This IS a perfect welcome to the Netherlands, and so beautiful!! Seems like a waste to "behead" the tulips, though. Too bad they can't donate the flowers, or let people pick them. I'm sure all the alternatives have been considered, and probably not practical.

    1. Dearest Peter,
Oh sure, this was a colorful and perfect welcome to The Netherlands!
Believe me, those growers know what they're doing, and what is economical considering the huge size of those fields!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  10. The tulips look spectacular en masse like this Mariette 🌷 It breaks my heart just a little bit that the flowers can't be saved somehow. I love a bunch of tulips sitting on my table so much, looking forward to spring here, about five months to go 😉

    1. Dearest Grace,
Well, you must think in terms of being a bulb grower/seller.
There are many others that grow tulips for their flowers!
      Hugs,
