FIRST Fragrant Magnolia Grandiflora 'Namnetensis Flore Pleno'

On April 30, the day that my Pieter went to heaven, I came home from the funeral home and spotted this FIRST fully open blossom...
Fragrant Magnolia Grandiflora 'Namnetensis Flore Pleno'

Parked my car inside the garage and captured it as it was also very low on this huge tree and easy to access.

Its planter is no longer with us to admire this tree which he planted in 1993 but no doubt my Pieter is watching over his estate from heaven...
It really IS summer here with 38°C or 100°F
Today it was 39°C or 102°F

  6. Hello Mariette, What a special gift to you that perfect flower was. Your weather looks like the kind I am escaping from in Taiwan. I just looked at Dublin's climate on Wikipedia and it seems quite sub-tropical in the summer, but pretty chilly in the winter. Do any palm trees grow near there, or is it too cold? (A few palm trees grow in Taipei, but they look unhappy and like they would rather be in Southern Taiwan, more their kind of place.)

Yes, it was a perfect timing for that Magnolia to bloom just then!
Our past winter was very mild but it can be harsh in some years, like in 1983 when we were here for the first ever winter. We sure do have palm trees and they do well: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2022/07/pieter-captured-our-estate-progress-for.html
Pieter did show them to me in June of 2022 when I went solo to The Netherlands for picking up Mom & Dad's Estate items.

  25. That sure is a special bloom! Exquisite!
And in your previous post all your window bloomers are gorgeous!

Sometimes I can get an Amaryllis to rebloom, for a year or two, but this year I had no luck...This house has no windowsills, so all my plants are either under lights or in a south facing area on shelving. I have a shade to filter the light there, else they would cook.

I am sorry that you have to endure all that pain.

(And I just got back from my work!)

    1. Dearest Ingrid,
Thank you and as for the windowsills, we had the home built that way as here in the US there usually is only a narrow ledge.
That is a typical Dutch thing and having plants to enjoy is such a bliss.
Will try to go back to bed and sleep but when the pain attacks it is impossible...
      Hugs,
      Mariette
