Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Commercial Mushroom Cultivation Education. His practical handbook is in 9 languages and is called the MUSHROOM BIBLE: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2020/08/modern-mushroom-growing-2020-harvesting.html
Next to butterflies, dragonflies are next on my favorite list. You have great photos here. I am glad you have your power back after 4 long days of not knowing what or when. I hope you do not have many or any trees down. I see these tragic photos of North Carolina and more, and I just want to cry. Lynn and Precious
Dearest Lynn and Precious, Hummingbirds, butterflies and dragonflies are the most beautiful little critters indeed! Oh, what a difference power makes, got shut–in as the garage doors did not open either... Around the house nothing damaged, only the tall and skinny Italian cypress trees came out from the strong wind... Minor! Near the greenhouse a tree fell and both bridges got destroyed. The creek has a totally different flow from before. The power of water is unreal and big holes near the road so that needs to be repaired for the umpteenth time. Praying for those that lost it all and even lives, also not far from me. Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Kim, Thank you and it lifts up our spirits at a time of disaster for so many. Yes, got power back on, late last night and the airco is running. No generator... guess they will be sold out by now! Our home has been blessed when we moved in, November 1990 and that has protected its owners so far, including kitties. Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Jackie, Oh, the dragonfly sure is a beauty! The nectar never touches the cord as it is fastened on the top of screw on for the glass bottle—zero connection with the nectar. https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2024/04/severe-weather-with-bridge-destruction.html You can see the hummingbird feeder in its entirety in last image. But I sure loved recording its 'strange' actions! Hugs, Mariette
Hello Mariette, I wonder if your dragonfly had got caught in the storm--its wings look somewhat weather-beaten. I m glad to hear that you are back up and running. --Jim
Dearest Jim, That was over one month ago but it looked like it had gone through some rough times—rather battered. What a joy to have power indeed! Hugs, Mariette
Hi again, That previous comment should not have been anonymous--my habit to sign my name to comments is coming in handy now that the comment boxes are getting more and more unpredictable. --Jim
Hi Mariette, So beautiful! We love dragonflies. In Japan, they're seen as the spirits of ancestors coming to visit. I was so glad to hear you are okay and that your power has been restored. Happy belated 17 1/2 year birthday to your kitties. :) Hugs, Kevin
Dearest Kevin, They are beautiful and it is understandable for seeing them as visiting ancestral spirits. Thanks for the Birthday wishes for our 3 kitties—quite a milestone at least for 3 out of 5. Sure glad for having power on and guess by now all in Dublin got back on. Nothing to complain compared with so many that are worse off and all those lives lost! Sad for the 160 lives lost during this 2nd worst Hurricane in 55 years... Feeling grateful! Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Mariette; So sorry for my late comment. I was thinking how you are ♡♡♡ How great to see your wonderful capture of Dragonfly on top of the copper hummingbird feeder. I let my husband see the picture & the dragonfly lover was SO excited to see the one he never seen before p;) We assumed that we don't have that kind in Japan. I AM SO glad that I could read your blog post, my dear American Friend. Please take care & here is one tiny Japanese thinking about you; Lots of LOVE from Japan. Miyako
Dearest Miyako, Thank you and so happy that your husband enjoyed seeing it. Probably your husband is more of an expert as I've only searched and to the best of my knowledge thought this to be the one... Hugs, Mariette
mariette…..VERY nice capture of the dragon fly, that’s what’s called being in the right place at the right moment. ‼️😺💙💚….mackerull said…eye hope it tasted like perch 😺😺😺 hugs from TT
Dearest Laura and Macherull, Thank you and yes, right at breakfast time it showed up and I had my iPhone at hand. Mackerull's wording is perfect!!! Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Mariette, I am so glad, to see you here! I am back after a long break.. hope, you are well, my Dear! HAve a happy october, lots of Love, Claudia
Hi, sweet Mariette! She is beautiful indeed, but I'm afraid of insects like that dragonfly, so I'll just appreciate them from affar! :) Have a blessed day!
So glad you got your power back. How horrific! A few hours without is bad enough, but 5 days. I am glad you are ok and that you had no damage to your home. I imagine you had a wonderful time at University of Tennessee. The area is so beautiful! It is a really cute town as well. Wishing you a great week.
Dearest Kelleyn, Sure grateful for the continuous repair work from linemen out of state and ours! When I visited the University of Tennessee area in 1987, sure loved it and so did Pieter while studying there. We both went back a couple of years ago and still love it. Hugs, Mariette
Good Friday to you Mariette, Beautiful video capture! I enjoyed watching it. I myself wonder what was going on there. When I water summer flowers, I like watching them dance in the mist of the spray. They get close and I feel like they are watching me. Wonders they are.
What a great capture on the video; absolutely brilliant. Watching the little creature eating is amazing. How beautiful they are. Wonderful photos, and the last one is stunning, showing off the lovely wings. Well done.
Olá, querida Mariette, que maravilhosa postagem! O vídeo é lindo, a natureza é fantástica, nada igual! Daqui lhe aplaudo!
That is a beautiful dragonfly! I wonder if there was maybe some of the nectar on that hanger part of the feeder?
We get lots of different kinds of dragonflies here, some are quite large and some are very small. They come in different colors, too. Such beautiful creatures in God's creation!
Dearest Ingrid, Indeed a beauty and as to your question, no there was no nectar on that part... it remains a puzzle. Dragonflies are indeed graceful critters in God's creation. Hugs, Mariette

The dragonfly is beautiful. I assume the nectar runs up the cord and that is what it is feeding on. I am glad you have your power back.
