When we immigrated from The Kingdom of The Netherlands to Georgia, USA there were quite some differences. There were no windmills here in this rural Georgia area.
But it was quite interesting to find in Danville, Georgia such a place like Stevens Antiques & Guns. We did buy a very special silver Verge Fuzee antique pocket watch, some antique silver coins for my sister Diny and a Smith & Wesson for me...
This is me standing on the side of the shop. That was October 1986. The antique silver Verge fuzee pocket watch is since September 2006 in The Netherlands as we gave it to Judith, Pieter's niece. She collects them.
My Smith & Wesson we did trade in again, before leaving for Pennsylvania and moving to Italy.

looks like a good place to find treasures. :)
ReplyDeleteDearest Theresa,
DeleteIt sure is and one never knows what to find in there!
Happy new week to you.
Mariette
One of my favorite things to do is go antiquing. You never know what you'll find - but there is always something. My most recent find was a stained glass window. I'm going to hang it in the window of our guest bathroom. <3
ReplyDeleteDearest Stacy,
DeleteStained windows can be so pretty and they look different, depending on the amount of sunshine filtering through. You will be thrilled; no doubt!
Happy week to you.
Mariette
Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteYou never know what you will find in a place like this - glad you found some treasures to take home with you. Looks like a wonderful shop
Happy weekend
hugs
Carolyn
Dearest Carolyn,
DeleteWe used to hunt at such kind of stores a lot more than we do lately but it is always great to explore 'the past'...
Happy new week to you and hugs from the other end of the world,
Mariette

ReplyDeleteCara Rosetta,
DeleteMi spiace che non ci sono lí... Ma sicuro durante le vacance si può godereli.
Bacioni anche a voi,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteSeems like you succeeded for the "treasure hunt" ☆☆☆ Your words made me think how it was for you to adjust new country.
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
Dearest Miyako,
DeleteOh, in the beginning you are so terribly lost in this VAST country! Our State is 4.7 times bigger than my entire birth country of The Netherlands.
But it is an adventure and one learns so much!
Big hugs from Georgia/USA
Mariette
Our friends' daughter is now in Japan with a small group for their sister-city visit! It might be too late for the beautiful cherry blossoms but still pretty in the spring!
Liefs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteIt was a big conversion for you to emigrate, I guess. Everything seems so big in the U.S..
This summer we will be visiting New York, my husband and me. I can not wait.
Enjoy the weekend!
Hugs to you!
Astrid
Dearest Astrid,
DeleteOh, the VAST country is something that is so hard to get used to in the beginning. Our State is 4.7 times bigger than The Netherlands. Our garden is big and the roads are wider etc. etc.
You will have the time of your life for sure!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteYou will like to have treasures for take back to your Pieter...
Hugs and love to you Always!
Michiko
Dearest Michiko,
DeleteOh, we always loved to take treasures back to family and friends; we've filled many a suitcase doing so over the years.
Hugs to you and admiration; you are doing so well!
Mariette
Dalle mie parti è davvero difficile trovare oggetti così. Un piccolo angolo perduto questo cara Mariette. Paola
ReplyDeleteCara Paola,
DeleteMa in Asolo si trova oggetti belli per noi... Ci sono oggetti en tutti i paesi!
Baccioni,
Mariette
Mariette
I totally understand, I found so much differences in the US after I moved from Japan.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice you found lovely antique in the store :-)
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteFunny is that during my stay in Japan, July of 2007, I constantly had to remind myself that I was NOT in The Netherlands. Roads are similar; homes and their sizes are very similar and the more thought through energy efficient set up. So that would not have been such a vast difference for having to adapt to. But now we are so used to this vast country and different lifestyle. Maybe they too start thinking one day more energy conscious like we were raised!
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Dear Mariette, This is such a neat store front. I wonder if it is still there, I hope so.
ReplyDeleteYou always look great.
Love to you, Ginger
Dearest Ginger,
DeleteThanks for your compliment! Yes Ma'am, this store is still around! We enjoyed our visit so much; like going to the Old West in a way. Rural Georgia, quite different from where we grew up.
Hugs to you,
Mariette
I noticed one more fabolous outfit. :)
ReplyDeleteDearest Bela,
DeleteTHANKS! You are a keen observer... Have a happy new week.
Hugs,
Mariette
Can you believe I have NEVER been antiquing?! I'd love to do it sometime!
ReplyDeleteDearest Courtney,
DeleteWho knows, one day you will enjoy antiquing too!
Enjoy your MIA for the time being as time goes so fast.
Hugs,
Mariette
