Due to still dark weather and rain... I still cannot make my photos so here is a post with the recipe for the CANDIED ROSE PETALS below:
This is a page I did scan from the book: Christmas with Victoria 1997 and it is still available at Amazon, just click the hyperlink.
The text with this photo on page 137 reads: Petal Crown
To create a small masterpiece, garnish a cake with colorful flowers.
This photo with Candied Rose Petals is from Southern Living February 1998, page 122.
Another idea came from Atlanta Magazine, June 1997...
That's how I got my idea for garnishing the chocolate heart & rose shaped dessert with candied roses.
Took a photo (today, on a dark day...) from my candied roses, see below.
Presented on a Royal Albert Princess Anne handled bon-bon dish.
Now the recipe for you:
CANDIED ROSE PETALS
18 small rose petals (pesticide free from your own garden)
1 cup sifted powdered
sugar
1½ teaspoons meringue powder
3 tablespoons water
½ cup superfine sugar
- Rinse rose petals, and let dry on paper
towels.
- Beat powdered sugar, meringue powder, and
3 tablespoons water at low speed with an electric mixer until blended;
beat at high speed 4 to 5 minutes until mixture is fluffy.
- Brush mixture on all sides of petals;
sprinkle with superfine sugar. Let stand on wire racks 24 hours.
Yield: 18 petals
This is rather easy to make!
Instead of ROSE PETALS you can also use edible flowers from your own garden such as; NASTURIUMS, SNAP DRAGONS, PANSIES, VIOLETS or DAYLILIES.
- If you don't have the meringue powder, try this recipe:
SUGARED ROSE PETALS:
3 large pesticide free roses
½ cup egg substitute, beaten
lightly
½ cup superfine sugar
TO MAKE SUGARED ROSE PETALS:
1. Pull the petals free from 1 rose. Lightly coat each petal
on both sides with the egg substitute, using a small paintbrush.
2. Sift a small amount of the sugar over the coated petals,
turning them carefully to coat both sides. Set on waxed paper to dry at least 1
hour. Repeat the procedure with the remaining roses, egg substitute, and
sugar.
Yield: 1½ cups.
Good luck with your version...

Hi Mariette,
ReplyDeleteIt is dull and rainy in Montreal today as well! When I do take my walks I try to take many photos...this way when it rains I am prepared. I must admit, though, that I do like the rain.
This recipe sounds wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing it.
Dearest Linda,
DeleteWell sure the rain is very welcome for the garden (NOT for the weeds...) but if you want to show some finished projects inside the house it is hard to take any decent photo! But hold on, you will get to see the progress one day or another. The recipe is in fact easy and fun to make. You can even keep them for quite a while in an air tight container.
Hugs,
Mariette
how very interesting!
ReplyDeleteDearest Theresa,
DeleteEdible flowers are very simple but add a romantic touch!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette ... This is perfect for looking forward to our rosé garden coming into bloom... Definitely going to give it a try. It is gloomy and rainy here as well. Wishing you and everyone who is experiencing rain ... Sunshine days ahead... Hugs and blessings, C (HHL)
ReplyDeleteDearest Celia,
DeleteOh, four days of rain does thwart our plans; but what can we do? Sharing romantic recipes and preparing for sunny days ahead! Hugs and blessings back to both of you,

Ganz lieber Gruss,
Mariette
I would never have imagined such a thing! <3
ReplyDeleteDearest Stacy,
DeleteOne of life's simple pleasures... passed from grandmère to the next generation.
Hugs,
Mariette
I'm sure that it will add a little glamour and romance to the whole cake.I adore decorating and I'm very interested about how present and serve a dish or a cake.Great recipe and idea, thank you Mariette!
ReplyDeleteDearest Olympia,

Fijn weekend voor jullie.

Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteThe candied roses are so pretty and thank you for sharing the recipe. I have done it with violets before and they were sweet too for decorating cakes.
Many thanks for visiting me and the kind birthday wishes for my husband.
Have a lovely weekend and hope that you get some sunshine soon.
hugs
Carolyn
Dearest Carolyn,
DeleteThanks for your visit and indeed those candied violets are sweet and looking pretty as well.
Trusting that you enjoy your weekend together and as for our weather, Tuesday is looking promising so that will make more than a full week of wet weather. The grass looks great and trees and shrubs are so lush and green.
Hugs,
Mariette
How very charming, Mariette! I will have to try these the next time I bake some cupcakes. They would make lovely decorations. Your bon-bon dish is so lovely! Thank you for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteHugs, xoxo
Dearest Karen,
DeleteNo doubt you will create some romantic cupcakes and you can use the other edible flowers on the list as well.
Thanks for liking them and you are more than welcome for the recipe!
Hugs,
Mariette
Sounds like you had a lovely dinner party. Another blogger posted some time back about candied flowers. I drink tea with all kinds of herbs and petals, but still not so sure about actually eating them. :) I'm sure your decorated cakes turned out lovely. And your yard is looking very green and beautiful. It's hot here but I am still managing to get out and walk nearly every single day. Wind is really blowing out there now though. Afternoons for the past several days have managed to turn quite dusty. Welcome to Kuwait in the summer. :/ Hope you have a great weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteNever mind if it rains or the sun shines; we can always be very productive! But for photos I prefer the light.
Oh, sure you can trust eating flower petals; if they are pesticide free and therefore best from your own garden!
Enjoy your walks in the hot summer.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,

Sabry!!
Cara Sabry,
DeleteAnche per voi un buon weekend con sole. Grazie per visitarmi!
Baci,
Mariette
Though I have never had candied rose petals, I'm already liking them :-) they look so pretty and sound really sweet! It's really great they are made of roses from your own garden, with no pesticide. Candied violets must be very sweet, too!
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteYou for sure will like them too and they're real easy to make. Best is not to make them on a rainy day as the drying will take longer because of the humidity. Though air conditioned homes do de-humidify so that would not be a problem for most of us in the USA.
Thanks for your visit and comment!
Hugs,
Mariette
Delicious!!! Thanks for sharing!!! :)
ReplyDeletexoxo
Dearest Anna,
DeleteYou're quite welcome!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting post. I never thought about making candied rose petals myself. Seems rather east. I may give it a try.
We are just laying low around here. Not blogging much just visiting a little when I can.
Love to you and Pieter,
Ginger
Dearest Ginger,
DeleteIt is fairly easy if you got what you need and some fresh petals from the garden. Oh, we had the entire week lots of rain and such dark weather. There is always something to do however.
Hugs to you both,
Mariette
Nunca pensei que este receita fosse possível...Espectacular....
ReplyDeleteCumprimentos
Dear Fernando,
DeleteOh sure; with roses lots of things are possible!
Thanks for your compliments.
