{Hippeastrum Fragrantissimum - in August and September}

Summer does last a lot longer here in the 'Deep South' as they call our region...
That sure has been true for our Fragrant Flowers, the Hippeastrum Fragrantissimum that bloomed on August 9, and again on September 24.
This is on August 9th...
Sure we have had lots of rain this summer as is evident here in this photo.
In only 2 days these buds did open up fully. This was on August 7.
The foliage is rather wavy...
Those raindrops on the almost bursting flower buds look very special.
One stem holds lots of flowers!
Husband Pieter took this photo of a second stem with flowers on September 24!
That are again several flowers, a total of six, on one stem!
Leaves do start falling down and accumulate on the patio in front of our greenhouse.
A very good photo showing the wavy leaves!
A final photo where Pieter is holding a single, large flower in his hands.
Wish I could also transmit its fragrance...

    1. Dearest Claudia,
Yes these flowers are big and gorgeous; a hand is always a great comparison.
Enjoy your fall week as well and sending you sunshine. It is now 25°C here and only 50% humidity so it is perfect!

    1. Dearest Kay,
Guess you are confusing ours with the more common Amaryllis (Hippeastrum x hybridum) a
native to South America and belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family. Those are the bulbs everyone can buy.
Ours has completely different leaves, they are rather wavy and by far not as thick and upright as the Amaryllis and they are highly fragrant too. The common Amaryllis lacks any fragrance...
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    1. Dearest Marie-Anne,
This is a lovely species indeed and quite different from the common Amaryllis that most people do know.
We are having a blue sky and 25°C with low humidity of 50%. Excellent day! Enjoy your beach day.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    1. Dearest Marianne,
We have had rainy and windy, cooler days where the leaves came down in big numbers while this Hippeastrum was blooming. Today it is lovely again and 25°C with a blue sky.
      Hugs to you,

      Baci,
      Mariette

    1. Dearest Tamago,
Thank you and yes, both are lovely. This planter is a French made one from Grosfillex and they no longer make these... We got 2 of these and 2 larger ones with balls on the corners. They still make plantes but different www.grosfillexus.com
On the photo the white fiberglass planter box is so muddy from all the rain... But at least we got photos from these fragrant flowers!
      Hugs,
      Mariette
