Our Biking Trip

On Sunday, July 4th we went both biking and had the road almost to ourselves...
Did use Relive for capturing the area to see it from above!
This yellow marking below gives you also a good idea about the hilly area we live in.
There are two rather steep hills with first a 9.6% grade, followed by a 10.9% grade...
The picture from a large field with green plants, is one of Georgia peanut plants. Plenty for harvest later around December!
On Strava, my maximum speed was 54.4 km per hour and on Relive it shows 58 km per hour...
Guess the video below from Relive does slightly exaggerate on speed... 😉

  1. This is very clever. I've never heard of Relive. Is it like Google Maps? How did you do the video?

    God bless.

    1. Dearest Victor,
We both have used it several times in the past for special trips. You can actually find 21 posts in my labels below. It is a Dutch invention and has turned into an app that you can download on your smartphone for use. Read more here: https://www.relive.cc/about

  2. Hello Mariette, That is a long and ambitious ride. When I lived in Ohio, I bought a new bicycle, but my small side road just led to a narrow, hilly highway with high speeds and narrow shoulders with a ditch on both sides, so I rarely ventured forth, because comfortable riding areas were too far away. Your mentioning Georgia peanuts was a coincidence; just last night I was listening to the song Goober Peas.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Well, it is not easy for finding a safer and more quiet road to bike!
For this route here above, we still have to cross the 4 lane 441 and again the 441 bypass! But it can be done after looking carefully.
We both listened to the Goober Peas song, new to us and I've now saved it to my Pinterest Music...
      Hugs,
      Mariette

Thank you, it is just paying attention to detail and I've learned early on in 2009 how to build in and center any HTML content. It keeps the mind trained and alert...

  4. Hi Mariette! Was it hard to drive? Do you ride those electric bikes?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Dearest Anne,
Not hard anymore but believe me we have done this same track years ago with our 7-gear bikes... Nearly killed us. Now we can use some support from the Electra bike; if needed for uphill riding. That's what the cardiologist advised Pieter, no longer strain his heart in our hilly area! So Pieter said, you too, as we always do things 'together as a team...'.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    1. Dearest Martha Jane,
Well, working with the Relive App and then building it into the HTML is something I've been doing for quite a while. So I hope to stay on top of this...

    1. Dearest Kim,
It is about our longest ride indeed. But the saddle is oh so convenient as it has excellent suspension! No comparison with older saddles that would make such a ride cruel...
We love being in nature, observing wildlife. Often too late for getting out our iPhone but it is on our retina!
      Hugs,

  7. Hello again, With all the bicycling news I forgot to mention that I have been reading with concern the reports of the flooding in the Netherlands and indeed most of Europe. I hope that your family and friends there are safe and have not been badly affected.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Thank you and so far friends and family are safe. The friend in Maastricht lives at higher grounds and the rest is more distant from the actual river water.
It is quite something though but it happens ever so often, despite all the sluices etc. Nature is a force we humans cannot fight against. The restaurant where we had my youngest brother's wedding had the markings on the wall where the water level reached over the decennia. People in that region are used to it and live with it after the waters recede and things dry out.

      Abrazos,

It is a clever app for many uses to track where you were at. A great Dutch invention and now being used by millions.
Yes, due to Pieter's cardiologist's advice we switched to electra bikes on March 8 this year and this works fabulous. No more straining of the lungs/heart!

      Liefs,
      Mariette
