After building the patio and cover Pieter also made a brick edging alongside the driveway and to the front door.
Around the flower beds he used wooden poles that got first impregnated.
All along the driveway is a brick edging as well, and to the left you see the wooden pole edging also.
Here you clearly see the round poles that edge the flower beds.
Showing the impregnated wooden poles from above...
Wooden poles and the brick edging alongside driveway...
All photos are from Sunday, June 23, 1985 and the fan in the veranda got hung the day before.
Our favorite reading place... The British Mushroom Journal is on the table.
Those blue cushions and pillows, I've sewn myself and that Smyrna rug I've also done myself; knotted with a latch hook...
Both of us have always been rather productive.
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeletethose brick and wooden pole edging looks great in your garden!
Your garden is really big!
Have a lovely week,
Love and hugs, Claudia xo
Dearest Claudia,
DeleteAt the time that looked really nice and after the hard work, it kept the soil from washing out.
Sure, in comparison to Europe, this was a big garden but our present garden is far bigger...
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette and Pieter, Apparently there is no end to the impressive projects accomplished by the both of you. And everything is so near and tidy--not exactly my own forte. I do have some questions about the pole flower border--do the exposed ends get uneven and have to be adjusted each year? How deep are the poles set into the ground?
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteThank you and yes, Pieter is rather thorough and precise in whatever he does.
No, those exposed ends did not get uneven and never needed to be adjusted.
They are about as deep into the ground as they are above.
Hugs,
Mariette
Todo ha quedado muy bien y lo has disfrutado muchísimo.
ReplyDeleteBesos
Querida Antónia,
DeleteGracias y sí por los años que ambos disfrutamos.
Abrazos,
Mariette
Lovely memories;-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteIndeed, from a home where we lived and loved for about five happy years!
Hugs,
Mariette
You certainly are a handy pair Mariette ✨ it's very satisfying accomplishing endeavours such as these 💙
ReplyDeleteDearest Grace,
DeleteThank you and in life you never get anything for free, it often requires lots of hard work. But indeed, it is satisfying.
Hugs,
Mariette
The veranda with the ceiling fan looks lovely, and a nice place to relax. I enjoy looking at old photos!
ReplyDeleteDearest SP&P,
DeleteThank you and we finally have come to a stage in our very hectic life that we manage to really look at our past!
Those are great memories for reliving; together that is, while it is still possible.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi Mariette. Both wooden pole edging and brick edging look beautiful. Pieter did a wonderful job! Your pillows, cushions, and rug are beautiful, too. You are both productive indeed, and very talented!
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteThank you and we both liked it at that time also very much.
Both of us never have managed to sit still with idle hands...
Now it is nice for looking back!
Hugs,
Mariette
What a wonderful place you had. You were and still are both very talented and hard-working.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteThank you and yes, it hurt us very much when we had to break up there...
Nothing comes on its own but with the willingness to create something of your liking, you can work towards a warm 'nest'.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette
Pieter obviously loved his new garden very much and I am sure he worked a lot to make it look so beautiful! I love your blue cushions and cannot but admire your Smyrna rug! What a beautiful work you have done! Do you still have it?
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Marie-Anne
Dearest Marie-Anne,
DeleteYes, we both loved our home and garden at that time very much and did the utmost for creating some beauty.
The wicker set with the blue cushions and also the large Smyrna rug stayed back with my Parents when we moved from Italy back to Georgia again.
We have no curtains, no carpet other than cotton mats that can be laundered and only for bathrooms and bedroom. In 2007 I had to use the pump spray for severe asthma so we changed into solid oak floors and tiles only. Never had that problem again!
Hugs,
Mariette
