While I was visiting my Uncle Louis in the Australian Outback of Broken Hill, NSW, husband Pieter had a meeting at the University together with the staff from Melbourne Mushrooms in Mernda, Victoria, Australia.
That Saturday afternoon, he ventured off in our Ford rental car, to explore the surroundings of Mernda, which is very rural!
This is the winter view of June 25, 1988. For nature lovers a paradise!
Yes, Pieter was very lucky for stumbling across these Eastern Grey Kangaroos!
When I got back from Broken Hill and driving home from work on Wednesday, Pieter took me to the very location, so I too got to spot them in the wild.
LOVED their long eye lashes and sweet faces!

A meadow with cattle and also wasteland with lots of cacti growing.
As you can see, it is a very rural area around Mernda, VIC.

It looks like a big bird is in this tree...
Cattle in a meadow...
Vast meadow with grazing cattle and a skeleton tree.
Pieter did capture this beautiful Australian Gum Tree on camera...
Both of us did continue to work another full week for Melbourne Mushrooms in Mernda.
Pieter conducting a General Course for the staff members.
Campbell Soup used to have mushroom plants in Canada, USA and in Australia...
That meant a lot of traveling and doing training for Pieter!
We did work very pleasantly here.
One more dinner with cousin Liz on Wednesday evening at a Thai restaurant in Melbourne.
It is very hard to find parking spot!
On Friday when we left, Pat, the harvest supervisor called me and came running towards me...
She handed me a handwritten note and a little gift.
Very sweet and meaningful!

On Saturday, July 2, 1988 we got up by 5:30 AM and did drop off our rental car at the airport.
We flew to Sydney with the 8:10 AM flight.
Stay tuned for the next part!
Thanks for your visit and comment.

I wonder if that rural area has remained that way after all these years. It's a wonderful thing to see wild animals in their natural habitat. Have a blessed Sunday!
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteIt's a very long time since were were there but I guess it still is beautiful looking and natural.
Hugs,
Mariette
I'm back home and doing the blog rounds.
ReplyDeleteA nice visit to Australia, I had no idea you had family here Mariette.

Dearest Sami,
DeleteYes, I do have one uncle and aunt and three first cousins with children, all moved to the Adelaide region.
There also was another brother from Dad, living in the Melbourne area but he went back to The Netherlands.
My first cousin Liz did show me where he used to live.

Mariette

Hello. You worked and you met Australia and its nature. The tree is beautiful and beautiful kangaroos. I would like to see them in the wild too. Nice gift got and is a great souvenir. * I am very sorry that you have to walk about the ball. It's not nice. Somehow, however, you need this experience. Be careful. Regards nice and warm.
ReplyDeleteDearest Giga,
DeleteYes, seeing this vast and beautiful continent with its spectacular nature was a huge bonus aside of our work there!

Hello Mariette, How lucky you were to see all that wildlife and nature in Australia--surely a land of great contrasts. The thank-you note shows that it only takes a little going out of your way to be thoughtful, but that the results and appreciation last a lifetime!
ReplyDelete--Jim

Such cute kangaroos! We have to see kangaroos when we visit Australia, right? :-) They are just so adorable! Beautiful sceneries from rural area. I love the first photo with sparkling water!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a sweet gift from Pat. Handwritten note is really meaningful. Your visit must have been really special for her :-)
Have a happy new week, Mariette!
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteThe kangaroos are very cute and their fur is so soft. We have touched some fur coats in Melbourne at the mall, quite an experience. Did buy 3 wallets from Kangaroo fur for Pieter's Mom, my Mom and one for us. Pieter's Mom lost her as someone took it at the nursing home she resided and Pieter lost ours while biking and having it inside his pocket and it fell out obviously... Don't know where Mom's ended up.
Yes, the handwritten note from Pat meant a lot to me, together with the very cute and original gift.
Hugs,
Mariette
Australia is still on our bucket list. Actually our youngest daughter did a semester at Monash Univ,in Melbourne. It is so nice when someone takes the time to write a note of thanks.
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteOh, if you both are able to travel the long distance, you better go! Australia is a wonderful continent to explore and in a way, your family already connected with the Melbourne area.
Yes, it is much appreciated when someone writes a note of thanks; straight from the heart.

Mariette
