We had been home from The Netherlands for 12 days... September 12, for my youngest brother Jan's wedding with Wilma...
So here we go again!
Yep, getting there is always the hard part! Pieter's 5th and my 2nd trip to Down Under!
So here we go again!
Yep, getting there is always the hard part! Pieter's 5th and my 2nd trip to Down Under!
We got up on Thursday morning of September 24, 1992 and were in our clothes by 7:30 AM, Georgia/US time.
Leaving for the airport by 9:00 AM and we finally arrived in Melbourne Australia by 9:00 AM on Saturday morning and at the Eltham Gateway Conference Centre around 11:00 AM.
There is a time difference of 14 hours with Georgia/US.

Still a looooooooooooong trip!
On Thursday morning September 24 we left on Delta from Atlanta, GA for Los Angeles, CA via Dallas, TX where we made a stop...
We had a chair with limitations because it could not go backwards...
NORHTWEST AIRLINES served good meals however...
DINNER & BRUNCH
Now only from Sydney to Melbourne...
We arrived there by 9:00 AM and got picked up by one of the Mernda mushroom plant's staff members, who also left us a car to use for the weekend.

Needless to say that first thing we did is getting out of our clothes after 37.5 hours and taking a bath!
Eating a pizza and going for a walk... not warm at 14-15ºC in the beginning of spring.
We went to a beautiful garden centre and admired the many shrubs and trees they have and even Dutch bulb fields!
There is a reason they call Victoria the Garden State!
After a soup at the restaurant, we went to bed rather early, after some 45 hours without mattress!
Of course we woke up around 1:30 AM due to the time change but we did sleep in till 8:00 AM on Sunday.
Thanks for traveling these 37 hours with us - BORING and LONG trip!
Next post is more fun 😉! Stay tuned...

Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteDanke und das gleiche für dich!
Mariette
Hello Mariette, All that travel sounds exhausting--I don't know how you and Pieter kept circling the globe. Once a year to Ohio is about all that I can take personally!
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteOh my, those were our younger years as we would not be able to pull it off now! And again, never on vacation but just going to work... with some pleasant events build in for the weekends!
We did it always with great passion because we love people and we wanted to give our very best.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteOh my, sounds as though we have both come through difficult times. So sorry about your pelvic fractures, but I now have this mental image of you jumping out of bed dancing frantically to rid yourself of the cramping. Not funny I know however I cannot stop smiling.
Carl's liver abscess originated in his diverticulum and quickly spread to the very blood vessels in his liver. He has a PICC line through which I infuse the antibiotic Zosen every six hours. We re-check with an ultrasound on the 8th, infectious disease doc on the10th. Hoping for good news. Most likely not back to work until June. It is one day at a time and each day he is a bit better.
Please take care of yourself, you need to be back on stage!
Love,
Helen
Dearest Helen,
DeleteIndeed hoping for good reports on the 8th and 10th for Carl! Zosyn seems to be a very affective antibiotic, had it in my IV in January 2010 when I was having very high fever and being paralyzed. Hoping for a good recover. It never goes fast enough but patience is a good thing to relearn once in a while; as I've found out lately.
Looking forward to June 12 and yes, I will be back on stage but next year.
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
That's amazing you've kept all the boarding pass.. beautiful memory to cherish..
ReplyDeleteDearest Krishna,
DeleteNo not all but for such a very special trip I did.
It is all digitalized so no paper is being saved here.
The memory is being kept alive.
Hugs,
Mariette
The long flights are then the jetlag are the killers!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how you kept all those boarding passes and menus Mariette.
Dearest Sami,
DeleteYes, those were extreme long flights and they certainly do their job on feeling exhausted.
Only these very special flights I've kept some boarding passes and menus!
Hugs,
Mariette
That is really a looooong trip! I would so miss mattress after 40 hours without it :-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteOh, how lovely it would be to fly while stretching out completely, like in a bed...!
Hugs,
Mariette

Liebe Julia,
DeleteEin besonderes Datum also.

DeleteGlad to read you are doing okay and as for my header with the Royal Albert Princess Anne tennis tray is indeed a favorite china of me. We have several and I love this rose pattern. Also the highly fragrant hyacinth is heavenly.
Thanks for visiting, this was just a post to explain the long journey...
Hugs,
Mariette
