Inside our rather small Greenhouse we keep our tropical pot plants during winter time.
But one of them had grown during winter that much, we could no longer get this 'Obese' Agave Outside of the Greenhouse...
But something had to give... risking even to break off a leaf!
Here it is; OUTSIDE on the Greenhouse Patio... not wounded!
Of course we can never bring it back inside again!
Have you been dealing with pot plants that did grow into OBESE ones?
It is still a beauty but we now only can cover it up for winter time and hope for the best!
awww. as they say, success has its cost. :)
ReplyDeleteDearest Theresa,
DeleteThat sure is true! But it didn't get damaged... so far so good.
Hugs,
Mariette
Wow, a really big Agave, dearest Mariette!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful new week!
Love and hugs
Cclaudia
Dearest Claudia,
DeleteYes, it is really big and using up too much space... wish we had a huge conservatory like in a botanical garden!
Hugs,
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,
ReplyDeletezauberhaft schön!
Sonnige Grüße
Elisabeth
Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteJa, schön ist es immer noch!
Liebe sonnige Grüsse,
Mariette
Hello Mariette!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous plant!
It reminds me of thoses agaves we had in and around our property in South Africa!
It is faitly resistant, and I guess if you cover it in winter against frost, it should not suffer.
Quite a job to get bring it outdoors! LOL!
Keep well and enjoy the coming week!
Dearest Noushka,
DeleteOh, those are looking great but we made a mistake by building a single door for our greenhouse. Who thinks about this size plants? It will be fine when covered up, so far it has proven to be very strong.
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh my, that is one huge plant! Seems- it is very happy in your company dear Mariette, growing so well:-) I only had a huge chili-bush growing in all kinds of directions... to funny. And what a joy to see them growing and living so well!
ReplyDeleteDearest Eli,
DeleteHaving plants growing that well is rewarding but at times it can create new problems...
We will still enjoy it.
Hugs,
Mariette
Lieve Mariette,
Liefs,
Mariette
It makes me feel very lucky that we can leave our Agarve out all year. I don't know if there are different types because mine the leaves don't face down. They are more slightly upright.
ReplyDeleteIt is so good your plants can survive your harsh winters. I don't know what you will do next year because they do grow much larger than that. You might have to take it inside.
Hugs Kay
Dearest Kay,
DeleteSure there are different varieties of agave and we too have the one with pointed leaves that go upright, they also have very sharp ends!
We do not have a harsh winter here in the south but most of our plants are subtropical and therefore cannot handle temperatures below 0°C. It can freeze here and if it does, the day- and night temperature is too drastic from around 20°C to e.g. -10°C. Normal winters happen slowly so plants get adjusted but we don't have that in the south.
We will just cover it up when we have frost; that's it! It never will pass through any door... way too big.
Hugs,
Mariette
That'a a beautiful plant, Mariette!!!!!!!!!!! I believe ( and I hope) it wiill not suffer during winter if you cover it well. Do you still have other plants in the greenhouse at this time of the year?
ReplyDeleteI wish you a happy week and send you many hugs!!
Dearest Marie-Anne,
DeleteIt will be fine when overed in winter time IF it freezes.
No in summer we never keep plants inside the greenhouse as it will be around 50°C and that is way too hot for any plant. We keep the greenhouse only for winter storage of tropical potting plants.
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Wow that agave sure looks huge! Glad you got to move it without any damage!
ReplyDeleteI hope it'll do fine outside. Maybe it's good for diet? :-)
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteThe fact that this variety is soft, did make it possible for moving it outdoors without damage. We will cover it when frost comes and hope for the best.
Don't think we can put his obese one on a diet...
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette, what a beautiful and soooo big plant you have!!I hope its ok outside for the winter!!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a lovely week!!Hugs!!
Dimi...
Dearest Dimi,
DeleteWe are glad it got out, soft leaves that made it flexible to move past the entrance... But now it has to stay on that patio; too big to move and when covered for eventual frost it will be fine.
Hugs and lovely week to you as well.
Mariette
Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteI did get a little laugh out of your description of your 'obese' plant! Hoping it survives for you - it does look very healthy! Hope your week is lovely.
A hug xo
Karen
Dearest Karen,
DeleteGuess this agave is a very happy one and showing that with vigorous growth; way too much! But now it's out we can manage it for having it covered when needed against frost.
Enjoy your final July days.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello dear Mariette
ReplyDeleteWow - it reminds me of the film The Day of the Triffids!!!
The Agave was in the perfect spot in your glasshouse and so just kept growing!
Fingers crossed the winter is not too harsh.
Enjoy your week
Hugs
Shane x
Dearest Shane,
DeleteIt sure did enjoy its perfect environment and space!
We hope for the best but again, nothing in this world can live forever...
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteWow! you has tropical pot in green house not much plants in the winter time it without damage...
We still raining for another two weeks? we now only can cover it up for winter time and hope for the best.
Hugs and happy time with us!
Michiko
Dearest Michiko,
DeletePoor you with all the rain... that is getting boring when it continues for that long.
Try to be positive and enjoy your gorgeous photos from the spring and summer!
Hugs to you.
Mariette
Oh My!!! This Agave sure looks obese but I'm glad you know how to deal with this and save it, dear Mariette♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteSending you Lots of Love and Hugs to my Dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*
Dearest Miyako,
DeleteYes it got saved, thanks to its soft leaves... but now it can never go back inside.
Hugs and love to you also from your American friend.
Mariette
I have never seen a plant like that one before
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteBelieve us, we too were in awe when looking at its size...
Hugs,
Mariette
We were just at the local botanical gardens and the agave plant had grown so tall they had to remove one of the ceiling panels so it could grow out the roof! It was getting reading to bloom, and they said that happened only every seventy years ? I think, and then it would die. It wasn't "obese" like yours but very tall and thin (at least the long top part of it).
ReplyDeleteDearest Deborah,
DeleteYou were able to observe a very rare sight of a blooming agave. However, there are numerous different varieties of agave. Ours is smooth leaved and spineless. Yes, they die when having bloomed but they do produce 'pups' during their life for continuation.
We will see what ours is up to.
Hugs,
Mariette
Alles is groter in Amerika zelfs "obese" planten, grappige uitdrukking!
ReplyDeleteBeste Marianne,
Liefs,
Mariette
Good Evening Mariette, Oh my word, your Agave plant was very happy living in your greenhouse over the winter period.... it is huge. I am so glad you managed to remove it from the greenhouse in one piece.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Cyprus we saw a lot of Agave plants and we also grew them in the garden, but as the temperature was more temperate in the winter the Agave plants survived.
I do hope yours survives as it is a beautiful specimen.
Best Wishes to you.
Daphne
Dearest Daphne,
DeleteYes we were lucky for getting it outside the greenhouse in early summer... and in one piece! This species is smooth leaved and soft, guess it was flexible enough for passing through the door opening one last time. We can have winters here which are very mild but it also can suddenly freeze. You know we are at the lattitude of Tunesia so that is way south too. We just hope the best and with some cover when needed, it might live on.
Hugs to you,
Mariette
